The strategies shown are just suggestions.

The Subterranean Lair is the twenty-second level in Pikmin 2's Challenge Mode. This tricky challenge will pit you against three Spotty Bulbears and their children in an enclosed arena – clever use of sprays is critical to make it out alive, especially if you're aiming for a pink flower.

Sublevel 1[edit]

See also: Spotty Bulbear strategy.

This challenge is very difficult to get a pink flower on. Be extremely cautious as you load into the challenge – the three Spotty Bulbears are likely to immediately detect and swarm you. Given that there are three of them and only two ultra-bitter sprays at your disposal, your best bet is usually trying to hit at least two Bulbears with a single dose, or all three if you're particularly lucky. With good aim, you might even petrify the Dwarf Bulbears, trivializing the fight altogether.

Spray ultra-spicy spray on your Pikmin after they're petrified to eliminate them as quickly as possible and remain on guard to ensure the Dwarves don't pick off a Pikmin while you're fighting the adults. The Key is inside one of the Spotty Bulbears, but the nature of the challenge means you're going to have to kill all three anyway to safely get it back.

After everything is dead, you can collect the treasure before leaving if you wish.
