The Temporal Mechanism (こわれたタイムマシン?, lit.: "Broken Time Machine") is a treasure in Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 4. It's actually a pocket watch labeled with Roman numerals and has the Nintendo logo on its face. The second hand ticks back and forth between two seconds. In Pikmin 4 the words "Every second is of infinite value." are inscribed on its back, a quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. In Pikmin 2, it is found in the Valley of Repose and is held by a Fiery Bulblax. In Pikmin 4, it is found on a fence in the Sun-Speckled Terrace near a Bulborb. It also appears in that game's title screen, in the Dandori Challenge menu accessed by talking to Jin, and when choosing a sublevel in the Trial of the Sage Leaf.

Location of the Temporal Mechanism.

It is located at the far side of the field near a body of water inhabited by Water Dumples. The best way to defeat the Bulblax is to lure the Bulblax into the water and attack it with Blue Pikmin after petrifying it.

It is wise to go after this treasure near the start of the day. If the Bulblax is killed but the treasure does not get back to the ship before day's end, it will be inside another Bulblax the next day (unlike other above ground treasures, which stay in place from day to day, seeing as they are not held by enemies).

Pikmin 4[edit]

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

It is mounted on a wall near the center of the Sun-Speckled Terrace, slightly to the north. To collect it, you must first knock it off of the wall with a rush from Oatchi, then throw 7 Pikmin at it. The nearby Bulborb should be defeated, otherwise it will wake up when the Pikmin carry the treasure back.

Notes

Olimar's journal

While exploring this warped land, I got the feeling that time passed faster than usual. Upon researching it further, I realized it was just my mind playing tricks on me. But whenever I touch this object I can feel the space-time continuum bending!

Sales pitch

Believe! Believe in the future, in dreams, in unknown wonders, like this broken time machine part. This does not work, so there is no way to confirm its abilities, but surely your heart believes.

Olimar's journal (Nintendo Switch)[edit]

While exploring this warped land, I got the feeling that time passed faster than usual. Upon researching it further, I realized it was just my mind playing tricks on me. But whenever I touch this object I can feel the space-time continuum bending! Whoa... Suddenly, this all seems very hard to believe. I need a nap.

Sales pitch (Nintendo Switch)[edit]

Believe! Believe in the future, in dreams, in unknown wonders, like this broken time-machine part. This does not work, so there is no way to confirm its abilities, but surely your heart believes.

Schnauz's notes[edit]

This piece of technology doesn't work, so there's no way to confirm it...but I believe in my heart of hearts that it is part of a time machine. A foolish belief, maybe. But I have faith that the future holds many great things, and this is simply a sign of what's to come!

Olimar's notes[edit]

I was entranced by the longer needle as it spun round and round, and I completely lost track of time. This object doesn't strike me as otherworldly, but whenever I look at it, it's like I can feel the space-time continuum bending around me!

Louie's notes[edit]

The long stick ticks along a lot faster than the short one. If I had to pick, I'd choose the laid-back one.

In other media[edit]
