The Sun-Speckled Terrace (ひだまりの庭?, lit.: "Courtyard of Sunlight") is the first main area in Pikmin 4, unlocked after completing the tutorial in the Rescue Command Post. It is set in a garden with many pots and bricks. Ice Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin and Blue Pikmin can be discovered in this area. There are 7 rescues (5 regular castaways and 2 leaflings) to be made, 34 treasures (14 above ground and 20 underground), and 2 Onions (a yellow and blue Onion respectively), as well as 2 Flarlic bulbs. This area has
× 2,920 worth of treasure, of which
× 1,140 is above ground.

Once enough
Sparklium has been collected to repair the S.S. Shepherd, its radar is able to pick up signals from this area. The next day, the option to travel here in search of Captain Olimar and additional Rescue Corps members becomes available. As the rookie Rescue Officer and Oatchi explore, they will find more treasures and discover raw material. They will eventually find Russ as the first castaway rescued. As they keep exploring, they will eventually find Schnauz, a civilian castaway. This brings Shepherd to the conclusion that there must be other civilians on this planet, unlocking a new Mission. The duo will discover additional Pikmin types on their journey, including some Onions and Flarlics, as well as a red leafy-character with a big nose, alongside a green Space Dog, who are keeping a castaway captive.

Guide[edit]
|
The following article or section contains guides. |
This is one of only 2 areas in Pikmin 4 that cannot be 100% completed in 1 day, due to the fact that parts of this area requires Oatchi to jump, which can be unlocked the day after a castaway has been rescued.
On the first day, there are only 2 caves that can be completed: the Last-Frost Cavern and Crackling Cauldron. When you land, you can gather the nearby Pellet Posies for some additional Red Pikmin, as well as the Dwarf Bulborb, and you can find your first instance of raw material – important collectibles used to craft gear and build clay structures.
Follow the path round until you reach a dirt wall, destroy it and you'll find the Last-Frost Cavern. Complete the cave and turn left until you reach the next base: the Rugged Scaffold. Deal with the Fiery Blowhog and move the S.S. Beagle over. If you follow the path round, you'll pass some more Dwarf Bulborbs and Bulborbs before coming across another dirt wall. Destroy it and enter the cave past; the Crackling Cauldron, with the Double Dragon-Eyed Scope sitting on a nearby pot. You could either end the day upon its completion or keep going if you have any more time left. You would've passed the Temporal Mechanism attached to the fence nearby; it can only be knocked off with a Rush from Oatchi. A bit further past you can see a flarlic half-buried on a high-ledge pot. Use your Yellow Pikmin to dig it up. Two additional treasures can be found in the opposite direction of the Last-Frost Cavern, the Aspiration-Ritual Ball on a high ledge and a Lesser Mock Bottom in some breakable pots.
On the second day, head back to where you found the Temporal Mechanism and climb the nearby slope. Some Male Sheargrubs are nearby, guarding a clay bridge. Have some Pikmin build it and make your way back to the nearby electric gate, close to the Crackling Cauldron. Destroy it with your Yellow Pikmin and enter the next section of this area, housing the Meandering Slope base. As you make your way to the base, an Iridescent Flint Beetle will pop up. A harmless enemy containing a few pellets. Ideally, you should move your base over here once the bridge you've started construction is complete. You can also find the Satellite Shield half-buried on a can nearby, making Yellow Pikmin useful in its collection. Near the moat towards the north, you can find some breakable pots containing a pair of Perforated Rafts and a bag blocking access to a Yellow Onion. Freeze the moat and you can reach a Dandori Challenge. If you instead climb up the nearby slope from the base, passing some Sheargrubs and a Bulborb, you can find another bridge. Across this bridge is the Dandori Battle and a yellow-clipboard letting you reach the Mysterious Carriage.
Back at the bridge you were originally building, cross it and you can reach the Aquiferous Summit; make use of Oatchi's Pick up a Scent command to find a nearby buried treasure; the Child of the Earth. This cave needs Oatchi, as there are small platforms in the way that need him to jump up to it. Beat the cave and exit using the fan on sublevel 2, it'll take you out another exit nearby, at the Distant Summit base. This small section has a Porquillion with the Talisman of Life (Moon) inside, and you can also reach the Snack Bean and Fire-Breathing Feast.
The final two caves in this area require Oatchi's jumping ability. One is near the default base Ancient Arches, with the Orb of Destruction nearby, and the other is near the Rugged Scaffold base, with the Sunseed Berry nearby. The only important collectible left is the Blue Onion, directly south of the Rugged Scaffold base. Freeze the lake to have some Pikmin build the nearby climbing wall if you lack Blue Pikmin. Then climb it and transport the Blue Onion across.

The Sun-Speckled Terrace is the first area Captain Olimar explores in his Shipwreck Tale.
Plot[edit]
Captain Olimar lands in the Sun-Speckled Terrace to find any missing parts for his ship, the S.S. Dolphin. He manages to find seven of his missing pieces along with the discovery of Red and Yellow Pikmin. The Pikmin help him in the collection of his ship parts and fending off dangerous creatures.
Layout[edit]
The layout of the Sun-Speckled Terrace in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale is almost identical to that of the area in the main story. The major differences are the objects and enemies present, along with the cave entrances and the body of water south of the Rugged Scaffold base not being present. The upper section of the area, where the Distant Summit base is located in the main story, is inaccessible during Olimar's exploration in the area.
