(I know "yesteryear" sounds uncommon, but it's the same for "d'antan". However, I'd translate "copain" by "pal" (because "friend'" = "ami") but I figured out "Pal of Yesteryear" would sound even stranger, so I put "Friend of Yesteryear")

Notes

Olimar's journal

I can't believe I had the fortune to find this thing buried underground! It looks like a component of a huge mechanical doll. It looks just like a part from a robot in a cartoon I used to watch as a kid! How nostalgic. This futuristic machine makes me feel like I've traveled back in time!

Sales pitch

This relic rose directly from the sands of time! Its shape invokes waves of sweet nostalgia. Middle-aged men throughout the universe harken back to their youth and grin... They pass on their tales to the next generation, filling them with adventure and romance!

Trivia

  • The acronym for the Remembered Old Buddy, "R.O.B.", is the same as for the original Robotic Operating Buddy; the machine is commonly referred to as "R.O.B.".
  • In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Captain Olimar encounters a very large R.O.B. unit in a cutscene.
  • Olimar's journal entry could be referring to the TV show Captain N: The Game Master, in which R.O.B., among other Nintendo characters, made an appearance.
