The Gherkin Gate (見てわかる味?, lit.: "Visible Flavor") known as the Flavor Gate in the Switch port, is a treasure found in Pikmin 2 at the Perplexing Pool. It is actually the lid for a pickle jar that was made by the real-life company Pinnacle Foods, as the lid for their popular Vlasic pickle brand.

In the Switch port, the treasure is now an unbranded orange jam lid.

Description[edit]

On it, it reads, from top to bottom:

BIG TASTE • BIG CRUNCH

The strategies shown are just suggestions.

This treasure is found on the mainland in the Perplexing Pool, and is found near the two Burgeoning Spiderworts. It is almost in the same place as the UV Lamp in Pikmin, and the tactic in getting it is just the same. Just swarm Yellow Pikmin against the wall (be sure to have 15 or more). Lead them up carefully through the maze, then throw them up onto the high ledge so they can retrieve it.

Other Pikmin can also reach it with the high ledge trick. On top of that, flowered White Pikmin can slowly move up the ramp if ordered to do so with the swarming function; this will only work with a sufficiently large group.[1]

Notes

Olimar's journal

Staring at this symbol tantalizes my taste buds. I've never observed this before, but my sight and sense of taste appear to be connected. Perhaps this is some new kind of psychological advertising. I'll have to tell the ship about it!

Sales pitch

This cryptic design contains a link between sight and taste that is unknown on Hocotate. According to the psychology of unknown shapes, gazing at this will let you taste the unknown.
