The Trial of the Sage Leaf is a special Dandori Challenge cave in Pikmin 4. While it is only one cave, it features ten individual Dandori Challenges that give the player unique tasks that differ from other Dandori Challenge Caves, such as reaching a specific point in the level, or gathering a specific item.

The Trial of the Sage Leaf is only accessible once the player has successfully completed Olimar's Shipwreck Tale. Once this is completed, the cave appears in the corner behind the Onion.

Defeat All the Creatures
First, a preliminary trial. See if you can defeat all the Bulborbs, Bulblaxes, and Bulbears.

Careful use of Rushes and throws are necessary to complete this stage within the time limit; if worse comes to worst, you may need to use the player or Oatchi as bait to get the enemies to cluster together so they can be killed in larger quantities. Be mindful that Shearfleas tend to jump around and will disable commands if they latch onto the player or Oatchi- kill them first if possible.
8th Story: Crowded Kitchen

Final Story: The Purple Key

Capture the Purple Jewel
Can you capture the purple jewel of the earth? Use your skills to determine what needs to be done, and what doesn't.
The 10th Story has a Dandori Level of 5, giving the player 5 minutes to collect the Purple Onion. Completing this story allows the player to produce Purple Pikmin with the Onion.

A good way to beat this challenge is to think outside the box. Go backwards in the course. You get 8 Purple Pikmin (5 from a Candypop Bud, 3 from a Hydro Jelly) and 20 Ice Pikmin by plucking them. This will give you enough strength to lower down the Paper Bag that requires 100 Pikmin. Now, use the Candypop Bud to convert at least 2 Ice Pikmin into Purple Pikmin, giving you enough Pikmin to carry the onion and have a good offense; alternatively, Oatchi can be used since he will carry it faster via Swallow. Clear the path while the Pikmin are carrying the onion. You may choose to spend some time at the beginning to defeat the Waterwraith, but that is not required- it's better to just destroy its rollers so it won't interfere.
