Its being planted is discouraged by the fact no mycelia (roots) are protrooding out of it, though it may have grown before the mycelia were removed or eaten. The name may be a reference to the Mushrooms of the Mario series, and this reference is continued into the entry in Olimar's Journal and the Sales Pitch for the treasure as being able to increase one's size.
