The Courage Reactor (あいとゆうきリアクター?, lit.: "Love and Courage Reactor") is actually a Duracell D battery. It is the first treasure that can be collected in Pikmin 2, and is found partially buried in the Valley of Repose. Upon retrieval, the ship is satisfied with the day's work and the first day is completed. While Louie discovers this treasure first, he needs to reunite with Olimar before it can be lifted and salvaged.

The text on the side contains a paragraph informing the user that the battery cannot be recharged, and that the polarity of the battery should be respected. These instructions are written in Italian, French, German and English, in that order. The full text reads:

Inserire correttamente. Non ricaricare.
Respecter les polarités + et -. Ne pas
recharger. Auf richtige Polarität achten.
Nicht wiederaufladbar. Connect correctly.
Do not recharge. MADE IN EC
DURACELL®

In the Japanese version of Pikmin 2, this treasure's equivalent is the Love and Courage Reactor, which is a "National Hi-Top" battery, a Japanese brand of battery. Strangely, on the US New Play Control! Pikmin 2 website, the Courage Reactor is shown as a National Hi-Top battery instead of a Duracell battery.[2]

In the Switch port of Pikmin 2, the Courage Reactor has had its branding removed, instead being retextured to look like a generic battery brand.

The strategies shown are just suggestions.

To retrieve this treasure, both Olimar and Louie are needed: start by gathering all the pellets in the area and the Dwarf Red Bulborb. After obtaining 20 Red Pikmin, have them dig it out of the ground and carry it to the ship.

Notes

Olimar's journal

We've recovered our first treasure! Amazingly, the Pikmin remembered how to salvage it. I can't understand their adorable language and I don't know what they're thinking, yet I'm so happy to see them. When I crashed on this planet, the Pikmin helped me locate my missing ship parts. In my darkest hour, the Pikmin were there for me. Now that I'm reunited with them, I know everything will be alright. It will...right?

Sales pitch

Physical energy is not the only kind! The energy dearest to us is that made by love and courage.
