Iron fences are obstacles first appearing in Pikmin 4. They consist of several upright metal bars arranged to form a wall, with space in-between each bar large enough for a leader and Pikmin to pass through, but too narrow for Oatchi or Moss. Pikmin carrying objects are also unable to pass through, with the exception of small objects such as gold nuggets and raw material.
Two varieties of fence are seen in Pikmin 4; a rusty fence that acts as a static obstacle, and a shiny fence with white light circling the base of each bar which can be lowered by pressing a switch, allowing Oatchi and carrying Pikmin to pass through. These shiny fences have similar behavior and apperance to white gates.
