The Engulfed Castle is a cave in the Serene Shores in Pikmin 4. It has five sublevels. Only Blue Pikmin can access its entrance, though hazards of all types appear. Glow Pikmin spawned from Glow Seeds or a suitably upgraded Oatchi can be utilized to clear otherwise dangerous hazards. Neither are strictly required however, as all the hazards can be destroyed or circumvented with just Blue Pikmin. The boss of this cave, the Waterwraith, is unique in that they will drop from the celling after enough time has passed in any sublevel. It can instantly kill enemies and Pikmin, and cannot be stopped without Purple Pikmin. Defeating the Waterwraith unlocks an exit leading to the top of an otherwise inaccessible hill.
This cave acts as an homage to ‐ and at times remaster of ‐ the Submerged Castle from Pikmin 2, with some sublevels being nearly identical.
How to reach
The entrance to Engulfed Castle is found in a flooded alcove beneath the clay bridge next to the Water's Edge base. No matter if it is past noon or not, the entrance will always be submerged in water, meaning only Blue Pikmin can enter and exit from here.
The exit can also be used to re-enter the cave. Because it is not submerged, any Pikmin type can enter or exit from here. It is found in the area behind the Water's Edge base, up from the paper bag that must be pushed down beforehand.

Trivia
- As said before, this cavern is very similar to the Submerged Castle from Pikmin 2. Not only with the amount of sublevels or the use of the Waterwraith, but also the type of enemies and their placements, the elemental focus of each sublevel, and even some layouts being almost identical to how they were presented in the former cave. However, since not all assets from Pikmin 2 exist in Pikmin 4, there are some notable differences.
- In sublevel 2, rather than a Bulbmin parent and its offspring, there is an adult Bulborb and several Albino Dwarf Bulborb. A Pearly Clamclamp also houses the treasure at the end of the pipe section.
- In sublevel 3, there are no Anode Beetles. Instead, a Joustmite is added.
- In sublevel 4, instead of several explosive obstacles and enemies, more poison enemies are added to aid in the "poison" hazard theme of the sublevel. Venom Dweevils in particular hold bomb rocks atop their heads to possible reference the absent Volatile Dweevils found in this level's original counterpart.
- All sublevels have safe zones marked by green floors where the Waterwraith can't reach.
- The original music that plays in Submerged Castle doesn't play at first, but fades in as the Waterwraith's arrival approaches. It doesn't play at all after the Waterwraith has been defeated, as it no longer shows up in the cave.
- After the Waterwraith is defeated, the player can unlock the cave's exit above ground, allowing them to enter the cave with other types. However, the Waterwraith itself will not spawn once it's defeated.
