The '''Solar System''' is a device that will illuminate any sort of darkness inside a [[cave|cave's]] [[sublevel]]s. This way, it is possible to see things that are very far away when underground. The name does not refer to where we live, but really means a ''system'' that produces ''solar'' or light energy.

The Stellar Orb (日焼けマシン?, lit.: "Suntanning Machine") is a treasure found in Pikmin 2. It is actually a lightbulb. The treasure can be found on the last (9th) sublevel of the Subterranean Complex, and is held by a powerful Man-at-Legs. When this treasure is retrieved, it unlocks the Solar System component of the Exploration Kit. Like some other treasures, if the player defeats the Man-at-Legs, but does not have enough Pikmin to carry the Stellar Orb, which requires the strength of 5 Pikmin, it will change weight to match the player's army. Oddly, the treasure has an opposite effect on sublevel 10 of the Cavern of Chaos: the sublevel will be darker if the Stellar Orb was retrieved.

Notes

Ship's dialogs

That mechanized monstrosity is no longer functional!

An insect and a machine forming a symbolic relationship? Life-forms here are beyond odd!

Initiating area scan... Glass sphere detected!

If I combine this glass sphere with the synthetic sun I have been secretly developing...

Processing...complete. I have manufactured a Solar System.

The artificial sunlight it emanates will brighten underground areas.

Olimar's journal

The technology behind this impressive gadget is totally unknown to my people... It appears to replicate the intense solar beams of the sun. Space exploration has given me a ghostly pallor. Maybe I'll use this orb to catch a few rays...

Sales pitch

This tanning machine is based on primitive science principles. Come, you pallid recluses and sun-starved hermits! You, too, can have a healthy, stylish glow!

Olimar's journal (Nintendo Switch)[edit]

The technology behind this impressive gadget is totally unknown to my people. It appears to replicate the intense solar beams of the sun. Space exploration has given me a ghostly pallor. Maybe I'll use this orb to catch a few rays...
