This article is about the treasure. For the character proper, see Louie.

The King of Bugs (虫の王?, lit.: "King of Bugs") is a treasure in Pikmin 2, and is the final one listed in the Treasure Hoard. The treasure is actually Louie, rescued from the Titan Dweevil in sublevel 14 of the Dream Den. Even after he is brought back, the player continues to control the President as the secondary leader from there on. The reason given by the crew to store him with the pile of treasure is because there is no room for him in the cockpit.[1] He is tied with some other treasures for the least valuable treasure in the game.

Notes

Olimar's journal

Louie is back! Somehow, he survived a horrific ordeal with a freakishly large, weapon-wielding titan dweevil! I entered a hole with an army of ferocious Pikmin, grimly determined to save Louie from the titan dweevil, but it seems that he was perfectly fine all along. I can't understand how he managed to avoid being eaten. Hmmm... He's always had an unusually close connection with insects, and I know he loves to cook them! Maybe he wasn't kidnapped after all... Could he have been controlling that beast all along?! No... that's craziness! Although... he does insist now that we address him by his "proper title", the King of Bugs.

Sales pitch

A new employee of Hocotate Freight, Louie is often silent. Nobody knows what thoughts lurk in his mind. He appears to operate on the same wavelength as insects, often with dangerous results. After he was kidnapped, he somehow managed to hijack a colossal insect's brain!

  • Louie's and the King of Bugs' models are slightly different. Most notably is that King of Bugs' antenna's light is less saturated.
  • This treasure and the Temporal Mechanism are the only two treasures that animate when not being carried – Louie's head bobs up and down when idling.
  • In the Japanese version and in an early version of the English translation, Olimar's notes on the King of Bugs are very different, mostly focusing on the Titan Dweevil and Pikmin, rather than suggesting that Louie could be controlling the creature.[2]
