When a treasure or a corpse of another creature is nearby, a Fiery Dweevil will lift it up onto its head and carry it, making it impossible for Pikmin to collect until it is broken free. When a Dweevil has an item in its possession, it will stay at rest, crouching down, appearing as if it is only the item, until it is approached by a leader or Pikmin, at which point it will stand up and run away.

In Pikmin 4, as with all dweevils, the Fiery Dweevil's range of objects it can carry has increased. Any object that is directly carryable by Pikmin, notably useable items from the Pack, can now be carried by the Dweevil. This even includes fire starters, although this can only be seen with this specific type of dweevil in the Giant's Hearth in-game. Items that can explode, like bomb rocks or ice blasts can be used by the Dweevil when it has a target in its sights, replicating the ability of the Volatile Dweevil from Pikmin 2. It should be noted that Dweevils are not immune to the effects of these bombs, and will immediately die or become frozen as a result of the blast.

Strategy
Strategy
guide
guide
Take a decent sized group of Pikmin (preferably Red Pikmin or Bulbmin) and run up to the Dweevil. You should try to position yourself to where the Dweevil will try to turn to. Throw your Pikmin as fast as possible onto the Dweevil while it's still turning, and you should be able to kill it before it can get agitated. If it does attack, make sure no Pikmin are left underneath the creature, to avoid being set ablaze. Alternatively, you could throw a few Purple Pikmin at it, making sure the Pikmin will be able to land on the Dweevil. With four or five Purples, you should be able to kill it without any trouble, especially because Purples always stun Dweevils.
With Pikmin
It's generally safest to attack a Fiery Dweevil with Red Pikmin, Bulbmin or Glow Pikmin. However, the Dweevil itself is frail enough that, in practice, virtually any kind of squad can quickly kill one. If you are not using fire-immune Pikmin, make sure to keep your whistle at the ready in case it gets an attack off.

Another strategy is to use leaders, which is ultimately safer. Run up to it and attack it until it starts glowing. If the Scorch Guard has already been acquired, keep attacking; if not, run away before it attacks, then run back when the flames extinguish and continue the assault.
Purple Pikmin in particular are an incredibly effective option; if they land near the Dweevil, they are guaranteed to stun it, and if they happen to stomp directly on their head, they will inflict massive damage, almost instantly killing it.

Alternate methods
Fiery Dweevils are weak enough that, at least in p2, Leaders are more than capable of punching them to death. This is particularly useful if they've picked up treasure; a few punches will force it to drop it and temporarily stun the Dweevil.

An alternate, humorous method of dispatching one is to lie down near it with the Napsack; after it picks the Leader up, simply wake up to stun it, allowing for multiple hits while it can't react.

Oatchi can kill one extremely quickly, even if his Chomp skill hasn't been trained very much. If his Rush skill has been sufficiently upgraded, he can bowl over it for an instant kill. Be careful if he does not have his Scorch Guard though.

The Fiery Dweevil (ベニショイグモ?, lit.: "Crimson Carrying Spider") is an enemy in Pikmin 2, and Pikmin 4. Fiery Dweevils, like other Dweevils, like to pick up treasures and defeated enemies and put them on their bodies. When there is something on their bodies, they can't be damaged by Pikmin or leaders until the body or treasure is taken off. To take it off ones body, just throw Pikmin on the Dweevil's body or punch it several times. This particular species of Dweevil, when agitated by attacks, will release searing flames that will set Pikmin on fire. This makes Red Pikmin, Bulbmin or Glow Pikmin the best choices in battle. However, since Purple Pikmin can stun any common Dweevil, they will also work well.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Members of the dweevil family are known for carrying objects of astounding size on their backs, then mimicking them. The fiery dweevil is one species in this family. Generally, this is a very gentle insect that feeds on grass nectars, but when faced with danger the fiery dweevil ignites flammable internal gasses, juts out its jaw, and spews scorching flames. As this clearly makes it a rather dangerous insect, it is best not to linger directly in front of it.

Louie's notes

The search for a gourmet, high-protein salad-topping alternative to bacon bits is over! Grind this spicy dweevil into tasty micro-chunks and toss them generously over your salad to add instant flair AND flavor!

Dalmo's notes[edit]

That perfectly polished crimson color—like something hand finished by a true master craftsman—is a feast for the eyes. This brilliant color is actually made through layer upon layer of very fine fibers being stacked together. Nature is the most skilled crafter!

Pikmin 2 Nintendo Player's Guide[edit]

Flame-generating Dweevils set non-red Pikmin on fire with their attacks and send them running in all directions. The best way to beat them is to use fire-resistant attackers. Carefully aim then hurl red Pikmin at the Dweevils' bodies and keep attacking until they're toast.

Behavior[edit]

Fiery Dweevils scurry about randomly and take no note of the presence of any leader or Pikmin if left undisturbed. When provoked one will attempt to defend itself by releasing fire below it. The fire will scatter any attacking Pikmin (excluding Red Pikmin, Bulbmin and Glow Pikmin) and will kill them if they are not whistled back to a leader over a period of time. Fiery Dweevils are frail creatures and will die quickly if attacked by even a few Pikmin, or by the punches from a leader.

Strategy[edit]

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

With Pikmin[edit]

It's generally safest to attack a Fiery Dweevil with Red Pikmin, Bulbmin or Glow Pikmin. However, the Dweevil itself is frail enough that, in practice, virtually any kind of squad can quickly kill one. If you are not using fire-immune Pikmin, make sure to keep your whistle at the ready in case it gets an attack off.

Purple Pikmin in particular are an incredibly effective option; if they land near the Dweevil, they are guaranteed to stun it, and if they happen to stomp directly on their head, they will inflict massive damage, almost instantly killing it.

Alternate methods[edit]

Fiery Dweevils are weak enough that, at least in Pikmin 2, Leaders are more than capable of punching them to death.

Be careful if he does not have his Pup Scorch Guard though.
