The Greater Spotted Jellyfloat (オオマンマン?, lit.: "Giant Manman") is an enemy in Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 4. It is a member of the Jellyfloat family, and as its name implies, it resembles a large, pinkish version of the Lesser Spotted Jellyfloat. In Pikmin 4, it appears much more solid, looking similar to gelatin. It has much more visible segments, more consistent and dull spots, purple "eyes", and more subtle lines on the tentacles. This species is considerably more rare, as it is alien to the region, but its population is quickly displacing that of its smaller cousin. Greater Spotted Jellyfloats have slightly more health and can be defeated in the same manner, but can suck up more Pikmin at once, and even leader if the player is not careful. It is possible to get out of the Jellyfloat quickly by rapidly rotating the Control Stick on the GameCube controller / the Control Stick on the Nunchuk. Likewise, all undigested Pikmin and leaders are returned when it is defeated. Throwing Purple Pikmin will knock it to the ground, where it can be easily killed by swarming. Like their lesser cousins, they explode in a flurry of sparkling lights when defeated, but unlike them, they do not emit a song-like sound.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Vivid pink coloration is the most noticeable characteristic of this floating life-form. This immigrant species is not native to the region, having appeared to have recently arrived on wind currents. The luminescent organ in its head attracts prey, which it then sucks up and consumes with its lower orifice. Unlike jellyfish, the jellyfloat's tentacles do not have nematocysts, so there is no danger in touching them.

Louie's notes

Like a fine cheese, the aroma of this fluid floater can be oppressive, but its flavor must be experienced to be believed. Also makes an unforgettable nondairy spread!

Pikmin 2 Nintendo Player's Guide

The Jellyfloat can suck up your Pikmin and pilots, and hold them in its transparent belly. Direct your troops to keep a safe distance from the flying fiend and throw troops at its body. After you defeat a Jellyfloat, you'll have nothing to show for it but the victims that you saved.

Strategy

The Greater Spotted Jellyfloat is a large target and therefore can easily be hit with Purple Pikmin. Just one of them will bring the creature to the ground; 6 Pikmin will be needed, otherwise. Once on the ground, the player should either continue to throw Purple Pikmin at it, provided they have enough, or swarm it with a squad of considerable size. Both ways will ensure a quick defeat.

An alternate method is possible with only leaders. Have the Greater Spotted Jellyfloat absorb one leader, and then switch to the other leader and use an ultra-bitter spray to petrify the Jellyfloat. Switch back to the leader who is currently swallowed, and wiggle the Control Stick to break free. The Jellyfloat will be defeated. It's possible to do this with a single leader by spraying it as he is being sucked in, but this is very difficult.[1]

To note is that if a Greater Spotted Jellyfloat digests a White Pikmin, it will not take damage from it. This is also the case with the Lesser Spotted Jellyfloat.

Like the Lesser Spotted Jellyfloat, a Greater Spotted Jellyfloat that has been frozen by Ice Pikmin crashes and shatters when it hits the ground.
