It has been suggested that this article be split into multiple pages. Reason:
This is the only article that includes two things in the title, which is inconsistent. If all the minor Pikmin 2 plants get seperate pages, two differing Pikmin 3 obstacles should have seperate articles. The brown mushroom should be moved to minor obstacles, as there is no indication it's related besides it being a mushroom.
Discuss your opinion on the talk page.

Spotcaps (コマダラタケ?, lit.: "Small Spotted Mushroom") and Kingcaps (マダラタケ?, lit.: "Spotted Mushroom") are two types of fungus in Pikmin 3 that serves as a obstacles. Because they are usually found in tight groups, they can block passageways. The leaders must then use their Pikmin to destroy the obstructions and clear the path. The differences between the two fungi are their sizes and methods of destruction.

The Spotcap is the smallest fungus, with varying sizes near those of a leader. If a Pikmin is issued to attack a Spotcap, they'll pummel it for a bit, until it shrivels up and disappears, but if a Pikmin is thrown straight towards its top, it will crush the fungus and destroy it straight away. In addition, there is another mushroom similar to the Spotcap that is completely brown, cannot be locked-onto, and also disappears if a Pikmin is thrown on top of it. The two function similarly, and while the latter is not given a name, it is assumed to be another form of Spotcap, or at least closely related to it. In Pikmin 3, these plain mushrooms can sometimes release data files though in Pikmin 3 Deluxe all data files the corresponding Spotcaps once held are instead found nearby.

The Kingcap is a giant version of the Spotcap. It has a lot more durability, and occupies more space, but once cleared, opens up more significant space. Unlike the Spotcaps, Pikmin can latch on to it when thrown, and it has a health wheel.

Suggestions: Add more detail to locations.

Usually, the two fungi are found together in large clusters. Kingcaps are never seen without Spotcaps, but a few Spotcaps are in places without Kingcaps.

Tropical Wilds

  • Both appear in a non-obtrusive fashion in the cave next to the landing site, leading up from Alph's crash site.

Distant Tundra

  • A large amount of Spotcaps and two Kingcaps appear in the area around Charlie's crash site. The Kingcaps serve as the game's first obstacle.

Twilight River

  • A few Spotcaps appear near the Dwarf Orange Bulborbs near the landing site, where the lilypads start flowing down the northern river tributary.

Tropical Forest

  • Spotcaps appear in the lowest part of the area in both versions of the level. In the Collect Treasure! version, a Kingcap blocks a dead end in the same section.

Trivia

  • Spotcaps and Kingcaps share many similarities to Dwarf Bulborbs, and Bulborbs, respectively. Spotcaps and Dwarf Bulborbs each have 100 health, while Kingcaps and Bulborbs each have 1000. Both are red with white spots, and both Spotcaps and Dwarf Bulborbs instantly get defeated when hit on top.
