Attacks | Discharges electricity |
The Anode Dweevil (キショイグモ?, lit.: "Yellow Carrying Spider") is an enemy in Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 4. It is a yellow dweevil that will emit an electrical discharge when agitated by attacks. This electrical discharge will immediately electrocute and kill attacking Pikmin without a chance to save them, thus making it one of the most dangerous Dweevils. This suitably makes Yellow Pikmin the best choice in battle. Since Purple Pikmin can stun any small Dweevil, they will also work well; however, this is a very risky strategy. Anode Dweevils also pick up dead foes and treasures, which is common to all Dweevils.

Olimar's Notes (Pikmin 4)
“Members of the Dweevil family are known for carrying objects of astounding size on their backs and mimicking them. The Anode Dweevil is one species in this family.
They seem to have no particular preference for which objects they carry on their backs, as they will carry anything they can lift.
They boast an internal organ that generates electrical charges, which the Anode Dweevil releases when it senses danger.”Louie's Notes (Pikmin 4)

Behavior
Anode Dweevils will wander around the sublevel, looking for treasure, corpses, or Castaways to pick up. They are largely passive to Pikmin and will generally run away from them and leaders, only attacking in self-defense. When provoked, one will attempt to defend itself by releasing lethal electricity below it.
When a treasure or a corpse of another creature is nearby, an Anode Dweevil will lift it up onto its head and carry it, making it impossible for Pikmin to collect until it is broken free. When a Dweevil has an item in its possession, it will stay at rest, crouching down, appearing as if it is only the item, until it is approached by a leader or Pikmin, at which point it will stand up and run away.
In Pikmin 4, as with all dweevils, the Anode Dweevil's range of objects it can carry has increased. Any object that is directly carryable by Pikmin, notably useable items from the Pack, can now be carried by the Dweevil. This even includes fire starters, although this can only be seen with Fiery Dweevils in the Giant's Hearth in-game. Items that can explode, like bomb rocks or ice blasts can be used by the Dweevil when it has a target in its sights, replicating the ability of the Volatile Dweevil from Pikmin 2. It should be noted that Dweevils are not immune to the effects of these bombs, and will immediately die or become frozen as a result of the blast.
Strategy
The following article or section contains guides. |
Pikmin
It's safest to attack Anode Dweevils with Yellow Pikmin. In Pikmin 2, if no Yellow Pikmin are available, it is often better to attack the Dweevil with a leader; all other types will be instantly killed if hit by the Dweevil's electrical discharge, while leaders will only, at worst, take some damage without the Anti-Electrifier. Purple Pikmin can also work against it, as they have a 100% chance of stunning the Dweevil, but this is rather risky, so be prepared to call them back if the Dweevil happens to recover from the stun before dying.
Electricity is not an instantly lethal hazard in Pikmin 4. As such, while Yellow Pikmin are still largely recommended, other types can be used relatively safely, so long as you are quick on the whistle. Rock Pikmin in particular can very quickly kill one if you throw multiple at its head, and Purple Pikmin remain an effective option.
Leaders
Simply punch the Dweevil to death. If it starts charging up electricity, retreat to avoid the attack, unless you have the Anti-Electrifier, in which case, simply keep attacking.
Even without his Pup Anti-Electrifier, Oatchi can likely kill it before it can get an attack off, assuming his Bite skill has been trained.

Trivia
- On the title screen's "Spring" theme, one can see some Anode Dweevils scurry along the tree as the camera moves to the ground. These Dweevils, however, have yellow feelers, as opposed to the regular in-game Dweevils' red feelers.
- In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Anode Dweevils are mentioned in the description for the Yellow Pikmin Trophy.
