Spotcaps (コマダラタケ?, lit.: "Small Spotted Mushroom") are a type of fungus in Pikmin 3 that serve as obstacles. They are usually found in tight groups and typically near Kingcaps, so they typically block passageways. Some Spotcaps however can be found by themselves, out of the way. Leaders can use their Pikmin to destroy Spotcaps.
Spotcaps have varying sizes, near those of a leader. If a Pikmin is issued to attack a Spotcap, they'll pummel it for a bit, until it shrivels up and disappears, but if a Pikmin is thrown straight towards its top, it will crush the fungus and destroy it straight away. In addition, there is another mushroom similar to the Spotcap that is completely brown, cannot be locked-onto, and also disappears if a Pikmin is thrown on top of it, named Dusty Mushrooms.[1][2] The two function similarly, and the latter is assumed to be another form of Spotcap, or at least closely related to it. In Pikmin 3, the Dusty Mushrooms can sometimes release data files, though in Pikmin 3 Deluxe all data files the corresponding Spotcaps and Dusty Mushrooms once held are instead found nearby.

Trivia
- Spotcaps and Kingcaps share many similarities to Dwarf Bulborbs, and Bulborbs, respectively. Spotcaps and Dwarf Bulborbs each have 100 health, while Kingcaps and Bulborbs each have 1000. Both are red with white spots, and both Spotcaps and Dwarf Bulborbs instantly get defeated when hit on top.

A rule of thumb is that the larger a creature is, the more it must consume to support its body weight. The quaggled mireclops is no exception. It uses its rootlike legs to drain its environs of nutrients, to the point that puncturing it could improve the entire surrounding area's ecosystem. It also catches small insects using a hidden tongue in the wide mouth found all about its circumference. What prey it manages to catch, it dissolves to their base compounds, such as nitrogen, phosphoric acid, and potassium. Its insides are fertile ground for a wide variety of plants, including Sleeping Beauty and Dusty Mushrooms. Some theorize that the fruit-like growth atop its main body is in itself a parasitic species living off the nutrients it drains from the mireclops's enormous body.” – Olimar in his comments on the Quaggled Mireclops - ^ In the files of Pikmin 3, stored as

, they have data for a lock-on name, with it being "Dusty Mushroom". The name goes unused in the final game because they cannot be locked-onto.
