The Giant Breadbug (オオパンモドキ?, lit.: "Giant Bread Beetle") is a boss in Pikmin 2. Unlike other Breadbugs, this one is large and shaped almost perfectly cubical, looking like a whole loaf of bread, making it the largest species in the Breadbug family. It acts the same as normal Breadbugs, but is harder to damage by "rejection" from the pod. It is considered by many players to be the easiest boss in the game (the boss theme music is not even played, though an exclusive tune is played only in the specific cave sublevel). The more recognizable habitat is located on the last sublevel (6) of the Glutton's Kitchen and consists of only two other Breadbugs, electrical wires, and Anode Beetles. This creature is also found in the Snack Pit in Challenge Mode. The Giant Breadbug can instantly replenish its HP if it collects an object into its den.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This gargantuan species of the greater breadbug family has a torso so perfectly square that it almost seems like it was formed in a mold. For a brief period after birth, the giant breadbug competes for food with smaller breadbugs, but upon reaching maturity it seeks out much larger prey. This is the primary reason that two species with similar feeding habits can coexist in the same habitat. Hordes of Pikmin appear to pose the only plausible threat to this massive creature's life.

Louie's notes

Although cooking this colossal beast yields a mountain of meat, every ounce of it is flavorless. Only suitable for intergalactic all-you-can-eat buffets.

Strategy

To defeat this enemy, you must wait until it latches onto a treasure or defeated creature, such as the nearby Anode Beetles, or Breadbugs. Then, toss onto or swarm the treasure with as many Pikmin as possible (preferably twice as much as the minimum weight; this is of course made easier if Purple Pikmin are used) and watch them drag the helpless Giant Breadbug toward the Research Pod. However, an easier way exists, as when the Giant Breadbug is dragged, you can use ultra-bitter spray on the center of it, then swarm it. Like with normal Breadbugs, should there not be enough Pikmin on the treasure, they will be pulled into the Giant Breadbug's den and killed.

When the enemy hits the pod, it loses almost half its health. With luck, an egg containing Mitites can be beneficial here. Toss a Purple Pikmin at the Mitites to kill most of them instantly; the bodies only take one Pikmin to carry, so it is easy to drag the Giant Breadbug up to the pod if it attempts to steal one of these. Plus, you will have many chances to kill it.

Although this should be easy to avoid, purples are also able to take about one twentieth of a Giant Breadbug's health away by landing on its back, which is the only way to damage the boss if nothing is left to carry, so be sure to bring some inside.
