The first Crystal met in Pikmin 3, in the Distant Tundra.

Crystals are obstacle which appear only in Pikmin 3. Crystals can contain objects like Fragments, Pellet and also Fruits. Different types of Crystal appear in the game, but all of them need Rock Pikmin to be break. Some Crystals can block paths, notably the first Crystal met in the game.

Types of Crystals

Large Crystal

Large Crystal are relatively big Crystal. This the most common type of them ; it appears in every areas, except Tropical Wilds. If you throw 10 Rock Pikmin at them, they will break. They can contain Fruit, Fragments, Data Files (even Ultra-Spicy Spray in Mission Mode). Also, the Gray Onion is found in a Large Crystal.

Small Crystal

Small Crystals are Crystal which only need 3 launched Rock Pikmin to be break. These Crystals don't often contain things (Usually Pellets), but they block Geyser.

Care to do so?

Crystal Nodule

Crystal Nodules aren't like other Crystals : they don't block paths, contains objects or block Geyser, but are the main weapon of Skutterchuck. Crystal Nodules are very small, white Crystals, which only needs one single launched Rock Pikmin to be break.
