A Cardboard box in Pikmin.

Cardboard boxes are obstacles in Pikmin and Pikmin 3. In Pikmin, one can be found in every area except for The Forest Navel and The Distant Spring. They usually block a pathway and take a minimum of ten Pikmin to push. Once moved, if it is next to a ramp, a box can be walked upon and act as a bridge. Bomb rocks can be found inside the box at The Impact Site, after the first day, as well as in the one found in The Final Trial in Challenge Mode. In Pikmin 3, the only cardboard box is in the Tropical Wilds.

Locations

To do: List the numbers on each one.
Care to do so?

One appears in The Impact Site as an obstacle, and once the Red Pikmin push it, it becomes a platform to get to the giant tree stump where some pellets (or a Mamuta or Goolix) are.

One also appears in The Forest of Hope as an obstacle. It blocks the field where the trio of Burrowing Snagrets are. Blue Pikmin are needed to push the box.

Another one appears in The Final Trial, blocking the way to Emperor Bulblax's arena. Red Pikmin can be used to push it by running them over the path that is covered in fire geysers, but Yellow Pikmin can also be thrown over the side of the metal wall that is separating the box from the player.

In Pikmin 3, there is a cardboard box that needs 20 Pikmin to push out of the way in the Tropical Wilds. It is near where Alph landed; it separates him from the S.S. Drake.

Tin box

The tin box in the Garden of Hope.

Tin boxes are rare obstacles in Pikmin 3 that function similarly to cardboard boxes. They are gray boxes with a 20 written on top of it; they require 20 Pikmin to push. Their purpose is to block paths, until they are pushed by Pikmin, where they get out of the way, and serve the additional purpose of acting as a platform.

The only tin box in story mode is in the Garden of Hope, located near a Waddlepus and a Burgeoning Spiderwort, on the second section of the area. After pushing it, not only is the player able to get into the water from above, but the tin box also drops into a gap, becoming a platform. This allows the player to collect the Citrus Lump nearby.

Another tin box appears in the Formidable Oak Remix level in the Battle enemies! section of Mission Mode. Here, it acts as a platform for leaders to throw Pikmin across a small pool.
