Attacks Blows fire

The Titan Blowhog (ゾウブタドックリ?, lit.: "Enlarged Pig Tokkuri") is a larger version of the Fiery Blowhog, akin to how the Blizzarding Blowhog is a larger version of Snowy Blowhog. Since Titan Blowhogs blow fire, Red Pikmin should be used to defeat them as they are resistant to fire. However, when a Blowhog is placed near a void, they aren't fully immune to the creature as they can be thrown to their deaths.

Behavior

The Titan Blowhog acts quite similar to its smaller counterpart, the Fiery Blowhog. They will walk around a small area, noticing Pikmin and the captain when they draw near, and will then attack by blowing fire out of its mouth. This fire will burn any Pikmin apart from Red Pikmin & Glow Pikmin (as they are resistant to fire), but will still blow them away. In addition to attacking more rapidly than its smaller counterpart, the Titan Blowhog also has a slightly shorter delay before it shakes off Pikmin.

Locations

There are only two Titan Blowhogs that naturally appear in Pikmin 4. One is in Sublevel 7 Cavern for a King, located in the Primordial Thicket, the final area of the game, and another one is located in Sun-Speckled Terrace, but only in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale.

Strategy

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

Pikmin

Red Pikmin are the most obvious choice to fight a Titan Blowhog, due to their immunity to fire and higher attack power. In an emergency, other types can be used, so long as you are quick on the whistle to save any that are ignited. Small squads of Ice Pikmin should be avoided, as, apart from their lower attack power, they will quickly burn to death if ignited. However, significantly larger squads can potentially freeze it, allowing for one to deal a lot of damage as it is frozen. Titan Blowhogs are sometimes fought in areas where they can potentially buck or blow Pikmin off the map and into the void: To avoid Pikmin falling to their deaths, try to steer the Blowhog to look towards the platforms the cave is made of, and be prepared to disengage should the Blowhog start turning towards the void. Ironically, when fought in an arena like this, Pikmin afflicted by burning will actually be immune to the knockback typically caused by the enemy's flame breath. This can arguably make none-red Pikmin the safer option if the player is savvy with their whistle. The Power Whistle gear especially helps with this. It should be noted that Glow Pikmin are entirely immune to both fire and deaths caused by falling into a pit.

Otherwise, Titan Blowhogs are fought very similarly to all other Blowhogs: Throw Pikmin onto its body (or Rush into it while riding Oatchi), then whistle them off before it can buck them, repeating the process until the Blowhog dies.

A much faster, if riskier, way to kill it is to throw Purple Pikmin onto it; their extreme stomping power should kill it within a few cycles.

Leaders

Punching a Titan Blowhog to death is ill-advised; while their attacks are not particularly hard to avoid, their high amount of health means that it will take quite a while. Instead, have Oatchi do it, as he can easily take it out on his own, provided he has been upgraded with his Scorch Guard. The only damage he risks taking is from the Blowhog attempting to buck him away.

Notes

Dalmo's notes

Massive gouts of flame blow out from that gigantic body with astonishing force—enough to make you think of a volcanic eruption. This critter exhibits the power of nature's fury! One can be truly overwhelmed by the sight of the Titan Blowhog's raging torrents of fire.

Olimar's notes

Due to a hormone abnormality, this Fiery Blowhog specimen has grown to an irregularly giant size. As a result, its mouth and the organs that regulate its fire-breathing abilities are significantly larger, so the firepower of this specimen greatly exceeds that of its normal counterpart.

The fire it produces is actually so strong that the stress it places on the creature's internal organs is magnified, thus reducing its overall life span. This specimen is also unable to reproduce.

Louie's notes

Creature too large to easily carve. Bigger is not better in this case.

Trivia

  • An abnormally large Fiery Blowhog is also present as a boss in Hey! Pikmin, however it is unclear if it has the same condition as the Titan Blowhog.
  • Both Olimar's notes and the creature's scientific name suggest that Titan Blowhogs specifically suffer from hypertrophy, a condition where cells - typically those in an organ such as the heart - increase in size. While it is very unusual for something with this condition to grow taller or bigger, the Titan Blowhog's reduced lifespan due to its larger flame-producing organs damaging its insides mirror the concerns of those suffering from concentric hypertrophy of the heart, which can lead to heart failure.
  • Titan Blowhogs, amusingly, actually have less health than Fiery Blowhogs did in Pikmin. However, it's worth noting that their health was massively decreased starting with Pikmin 2, leaving Titan Blowhogs with more health than all other depictions of them.
