The Plasm Wraith is the final boss in Pikmin 3. It appears as a golden, humanoid blob of a loose jellylike substance similar to the Waterwraith, except instead of stone rollers, it surrounds a solid cube of gold (not unlike the Goolix).

The Plasm Wraith is encountered at the Formidable Oak, having taken Olimar captive with what appears to be curiosity rather than maliciousness. Efforts to rescue Olimar cause the being to become transparent and invincible and slowly ooze towards Olimar, attempting to retake him, until he reaches the outside of the oak. Once this occurs the Plasm Wraith takes its golden humanoid form, locks Olimar in its core, and begins to attack.

Battle

The Plasm Wraith only takes minimal damage from being directly assulted with Pikmin, and can pick up and "eat" several at a time with decent speed (as the battle progresses, with blinding speed; it steadily gets faster as it takes damage). Picking up Pikmin in this way is considered an impaling attack, so Rock Pikmin are immune to it. Proper disposal of the creature involves forcing it to lose its gelatinous exterior and having Pikmin attack the loose blobs, causing them to disappear. As this happens, the Plasm Wraith slowly shrinks and gets slightly faster; once enough of it has been destroyed, it is defeated. Should parts of the Plasm Wraith's body sit around for too long, it will reabsorb all of it, thus making it crucial to destroy them quickly lest the player risk incurring the wrath of the Plasm Wraith longer than need be.

After a certain amount of its body has been lost, the Plasm Wraith begins to float high in the air. Winged Pikmin are necessary to reach it at this height, and after this phase, it is killed.

Defeating the Plasm Wraith immediately activates the game's ending.

Elemental Plasms

Aside from "eating" Pikmin, the Plasm Wraith's main attack is to intentionally split off part of itself to create a large "elemental zone". Part of its cubical core sits in the center of the golden substance as it takes on the properties of one of four elements. Using the correct Pikmin to attack the core causes the blob to fall apart and be scattered onto the ground, where it can be destroyed. Once the battle reaches its final stage, up to three different Elemental Plasms can be created at once.

  • Combustion Plasm: The goo sits on the ground and ignites, forming a circle of fire around the core.
  • Discharge Plasm: The core is lifted high off the ground by a spike of material and is surrounded by an electrical field resembling a plasma globe.
  • Aqua Plasm: The core is surrounded by a sphere of water.
  • Pellucid Plasm: The blob forms a cubical shape, gains a crystalline look, and begins to roll along the ground, crushing Pikmin.

Trivia

  • This creature, along with the Titan Dweevil, are the only creatures so far in the series to exhibit the ability to harness all elements; all other element-based enemies are only able to wield one element.
  • When the Plasm Wraith is idle, its right shoulder is bigger than its left shoulder, making it the forth asymmetric creature in the Pikmin series; the first being the Mamuta, second Segmented Crawbster and third from pikmin 3 Peckish Aristocrab.
