Spotcaps and Kingcaps are two types of fungus in Pikmin 3 that serves as a obstacles. Because they are usually found in tight groups, they can block passageways. The leaders must then use their Pikmin to destroy the obstructions and clear the path. The differences between the two fungi are their sizes and methods of destruction.

The Spotcap is the smallest fungus, with varying sizes near those of a leader. If a Pikmin is issued to attack a Spotcap, they'll pummel it for a bit, until it shrivels up and disappears, but if a Pikmin is thrown straight towards its top, it will crush the fungus and delete it straight away. In addition, there is another mushroom similar to the Spotcap that is completely brown, cannot be locked on to, and also disappear if a Pikmin is thrown on top of it. The two function similarly, and while the latter is not given a name, it is assumed to be another form of Spotcap, or at least closely related to it. These "plain" mushrooms can sometimes release data files.

The Kingcap is a giant version of the Spotcap. It has a lot more durability, and occupies more space, but once cleared, opens up more significant space. Unlike the Spotcaps, Pikmin can latch on to it when thrown, and it has a health wheel.

Usually, the two fungi are found together in large clusters. Kingcaps are never seen without Spotcaps, but a few Spotcaps are in places without Kingcaps.
