Once it hits the pod, it will lose half its health. even if the meter stays green, repeating this step will ''always'' result in death. Purple Pikmin are also able to take about one eighth of a Giant Breadbug's health away if you land one on its back, which is a great strategy if you run out of objects to bait it with.

The Giant Breadbug is a boss in Pikmin 2. Unlike other Breadbugs, this one is large and shaped more almost perfectly cubical, looking like a whole loaf of bread, making it the largest species in the Breadbug family. It acts the same as normal Breadbugs, but is harder to damage by "rejection" from the pod. It is considered by many players to be the easiest boss in the game (boss theme music is not even played, though an exclusive tune is played only in the specific cave sublevel). The more recognizable habitat is located on the last sublevel (6) of the Glutton's Kitchen and consists of only two other Breadbugs, electric nodes, and Anode Beetles.

This creature is also found in the Snack Pit in Challenge Mode.

To defeat this enemy, you must wait until it latches onto a treasure or defeated creature. Then, toss as many Pikmin as possible onto the treasure (preferably twice as much as the minimum weight) and watch them drag the helpless Giant Breadbug toward the pod. Once it hits the pod, it will lose half its health. Even if the meter stays green, repeating this step will always result in death. If you are lucky, you may find an egg filled with Mitites. Toss your Purple Pikmin at them and most of the Mitites will die from the impact. These only take one Pikmin to carry. Use a Purple Pikmin on each Mitite to drag the Giant Breadbug up to the pod once it attempts to steal one of these. Purples are also able to take about one eighth of a Giant Breadbug's health away if you land one on its back, which is a great strategy if you run out of objects to bait the enemy with.
