Sheargrub
Himeagea mandibulosa
Sheargrubs are small, grub-like enemies in both Pikmin and Pikmin 2. They would hide in the ground and only emerge when the player (or a group of Pikmin) passed by, at which point they would emerge and attack. While they were not especially dangerous and had little health, they were infamous in both games for tearing apart the bridges that Pikmin construct.
Overview
Sheargrubs are in fact fully matured insects which have lost their legs and wings through evolution, and thus, resemble small grubs. They demonstrate a degree of sexual dimorphism not at all uncommon to insects. The males of the species have a dark purple shell and large, strong mouthparts. Pikmin are their favorite food, though they will attack captains as well. The females are much lighter in color, and their mandibles are significantly smaller. They are not a threat to the Pikmin themselves or to the player, making them more of a distraction than a hazard, but can still demolish stick bridges with annoying efficiency.
