Unmarked Spectralids are insects in Pikmin 2. They resemble small butterflies, colored either red, yellow, or purple. They are one of the series' harmless enemies, having absolutely no means of attack. They are located in specific patches of plants and appear upon being disturbed, leaving the area's boundaries not long after. Their color indicates what they drop when killed, being either ultra-spicy spray, Ultra-Bitter Spray or a pool of nectar.
The only area above ground they appear in is the Awakening Wood, one group hidden in a Margaret near the Sunseed Berry, and another in a nearby Figwort (next to the bridge there); red and purple Spectralids do not appear above ground, and can only be found (along with more yellow Spectralids) in "rest sublevels" of certain caves. Usually underground, they are found in clusters of 20 or more. These creatures are so delicate that, upon being petrified, they will fall down to the ground and crumble; in the Piklopedia, however, they only fall to the ground.

Strategy
The captains should throw the Pikmin that the captains have at their disposal rapidly into the air in all directions in an attempt to knock them down, or they could attempt to spray a large group with an Ultra-Bitter Spray when with a small number of Pikmin. The latter is only efficient if red-or blue-colored Spectralids are present in the swarm.

Trivia
- After Spectralids have been added to the in-game Piklopedia, some species, once an undetermined number have been killed, will have Spectralids flying around them in their Piklopedia entry. These include Red, Hairy and Orange Bulborbs.
- Spectralids will occasionally land on idle Mamutas in-game.
- Although their HP is specified to be 200 in the game files, they die instantly when a Pikmin is thrown at them.
