Enemy of the Week
11/3/08
The Emperor Bulblax is the final boss in the first Pikmin game. He lies dormant in his arena at The Final Trial until approached, at which he will wake up and start attacking. He resembles a huge, flabby, frog-like Bulborb with small red eyes and a thick, moss-covered hide, which is the only visible part of him when he sleeps, and also invulnerable to attacks. As Olimar's notes state, moss can only grow on it in the rainy season, and other plants can also grow on the hide which means that it is the rainy season in Pikmin. His attacks are different depending on his "mood". This mood is initially characterized by salivation: he will attack by using his tongue. After taking damage, this phase will end, and Bulblax will use his jump attack. As defeating him when he is doing this is very difficult, you should pay attention to his mood. If you evade several of his jumps, he will go back to his eating mood. It is possible to identify the jumping mood beforehand, as the creature drools far less during the phase.
The best strategy to beating him is to have Yellow Pikmin grab any nearby bomb-rocks, and let him eat them. He will be stunned by the explosion (the more bomb-rocks, the longer the stun), providing a good time to toss as many Red Pikmin as possible onto his face. Doing this repeatedly will have him beaten easily. Alternatively, you can throw yellows with bomb-rocks in front of him and call them to you as soon as the Bulblax prepares his attack; the yellows will leave the bombs and these will explode as soon as the Bulblax touches them with his tongue, which will stun him longer. This method is harder, but the effects are the same and without Pikmin loss, which is helpful for zero-death runs.
It's usually a good idea to devote a single day to removing obstacles and clearing the path, and then deal with the Bulblax the following day, since the battle itself can often be time-consuming.
Reel Notes
This massive grub-dog buries itself when hunting.
Olimar's Notes
The largest member of the grub-dog family is normally found buried in the ground, with only the stalks of its eyes exposed. This camouflage allows the predator to surprise smaller creatures and use its long, adhesive tongue to capture prey. The thick hide and angular hump give the organism a distinct rocklike quality. During the rainy season, moss grows freely on its hump, making it nearly impossible to distinguish this lethal predator from a stone.
Louie's Notes
To prep the tongue for cooking, marinate in olive oil and chop into cubes. Stir in a pot with carrots, potatoes, and chives, cover, and simmer over low heat for several hours. Accompany this mouthwatering, rustic stew with a hearty roll.

Pikmin 3
StoryOlimar's son is in need of otherworldly treasures to get the Space Explorer Merit Badge in his Boy Scouts Troop. You also need 2,500 Pokos to buy them a new house on the Pikmin Planet, where the whole family will move in along wit ha colony of Hocotatians in a year. You can play as Olimar or Olimar's Son, and eventually his wife and daughter. You choose weather to use treasures to words your son's 750 merit goal, or to use them to sell for pokos. PikminRed Pikmin One of the classics. This pikmin has a strong attack and can resist fire. Yellow Pikmin Another Classic. These ones can go far when thrown, and can resist electrical currents. They can hold bomb-rocks again!!! Blue Pikmin Once Again, a Classic. These ones are can breathe water, and don't drown when you take them through it. White Pikmin A Pikmin 2 favorite. These can see treasures buried underground, and can breathe gas. Purple Pikmin Another Pikmin 2 Favorite. These pikmin stun enemies when thrown on them, and can lift 10 time more weight than a normal Pikmin. Green Pikmin These new pikmin can sing when they are idle, and make the grass grow into nectar. If you leave the nectar there overnnight, it will harden into a green pellet (1), which is the only way to breed these pikmin. They also slowly drain water, but eventually suck up enough water to explode. Silver Pikmin Another New pikmin, these ones can resist cold temperatures, and can get a grip on solid Ice. Black Pikmin A new Pikmin that can burry themselves underground when they are about to be eaten, and uproot themselves after the threat has past. They can also dig tunnels so that Olimar and the pikmin can safely reach a certain spot. Sky Blue Pikmin This new pikmin can actually fly, and have a webbing like wings in between their arms and legs. Olimar can use 4 of these to fly to any spot on the map, and each Sky Blue Pikmin can carry one pikmin. Assassin Pikmin This mysterious pikmin appears if you leave a black pikmin burryed in the ground by the only abouve ground shady candypop bud for five days. Then, go and find it. It will challenge you to a race. If you make it through the obstacle course and his the busser before him, he will join you. You can only have one at a time, and he is the only pikmin that can use sniping posts, and has a different way to kill every enemy. |
