Shearflea[edit]
- Main article: Shearflea.
Scientific name: Suprictis rubro
The Shearflea is an enemy found in Pikmin 4. They are small reddish creatures that resemble fleas. They can be found in several caves and the Hero's Hideaway. Unlike most enemies, when they grab a Pikmin, they don't instantly try to eat them. They instead attempt to jump away from the player and then eat them.
Naming[edit]
The family's name can be split up into two words: "spring" and "jab". The word spring references to how Shearflea leap towards the Pikmin, and jab is in relation to the way they impale Pikmin.
The genus Suprictis could be derived from supra and ictus, Latin for "above" and "stab" respectively.
