Day 2: Inside Forest (お宝調査その2 森の中?, lit.: "Treasure Survey Part 2: In the Forest") is the second mission in Olimar's Assignment, representing the second day of Olimar and Louie's third trip to PNF-404. It takes place in the Tropical Wilds.

Plot[edit]

Olimar's Expedition Log: Field Survey[edit]

[The scene shows Captain Olimar facing the camera in front of the waterfall in the area.]

This is Olimar, captain of the S.S. Dolphin.

I've been to this planet twice before already. I never tire of hunting for treasure here!

I made an interesting find in this area: some sort of key-like object.

I should hold on to it in case I find a treasure chest.

Unless it's a key to something else?

[Olimar looks to his left to see Louie, on the beach section, running away from a Peckish Aristocrab, along with a Blue Pikmin, and ending up paralyzed on the ground after being struck by its claw. The scene then returns to Olimar.]

I'd better keep my eyes open.

I wouldn't want to get between the crabs of this planet and their prey.

This cutscene is identical to the Secret File Olimar's Expedition Log - In the Wilds -, but with different subtitles.

Synopsis[edit]

In relation to the Story Mode, this takes place after the Koppaites have already crash landed, indicated by Olimar's obtaining of the cosmic-drive key. It's likely this takes place after Alph has already left the Tropical Wilds and heading for the Garden of Hope in search of Brittany, as he is not seen. Although, considering the areas where Alph would be are not explored, his discovery of the Red Pikmin may be happening simultaneously to this mission. One of Olimar's data files, normally located where Alph crash landed, is not seen on Day 1, indicating Olimar would have to have dropped it sometime after Alph already left the area. It is also worth noting that Alph's KopPad does not detect any signs of intelligent life in the immediate area before he leaves the Tropical Forest, meaning if Olimar and Louie were there, they should be gone before the scan is done.

Description[edit]

The day is set in the Tropical Wilds, but only a small portion as cinder blocks and brick walls limit the most of the area. The Shaggy Long Legs arena and the pond surrounding the Slapstick Crescent are accessible, with anything beyond being blocked off, including the ledge in the middle with the Scaly Custard, normally accessible with the seesaw block which has been removed. The area underneath the bridge that would connect the player to the S.S. Drake's landing area is also accessible, although the cave with the Velvety Dreamdrop is blocked as well.

The player begins within the second ring of the Shaggy Long Legs arena. One path is blocked by a dirt wall, but the other side of it can be accessed through a second, longer path, so this wall acts as a shortcut to the SPERO for the Pikmin. The first ring of the Shaggy Long Legs arena is blocked by another dirt wall. There are also several fruits, nuggets, and enemies submerged in water.

Guide[edit]

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

At the start, have Louie pluck the blue sprouts near base while Olimar plucks the red ones. Once Olimar is done, send him to kill the Dwarf Bulborb near base. Use Louie to build up more Blue Pikmin with the Pellet Posies near base, make sure to take the blue pellets to maximize the Pikmin numbers. Once Olimar kills and carrys back the Dwarf Bulborb, use him to kill the other Dwarf Bulborb and Bulborb ahead. Collect the Sunseed Berry that is inside the Bulborb, then go a bit further to kill another Dwarf Bulborb and dig up the Sunseed Berry in the ground. Use Louie to head to the Face Wrinkler on accros the small pool of water. Make sure to kill the Water Dumples and collect the Juicy Gaggles they drop. Send Olimar to base and start breaking the dirt wall with whatever Pikmin he has. Once Louie uses his Blue Pikmin to collect the Face Wrinkler, send him to the south portion of the map to collect one more Sunseed Berry, kill the Wollyhop, and pluck the blue sporuts. When the Pikmin Olimar has finish destroying the wall, use Olimar to go to the on-land pile of Gold Nuggets and then to other wall and break it while Louie collects the Gold Nuggets and Cupid's Grenade in the water and kills the Water Dumple. Make sure to have Olimar destroy the Kingcap and Spotcap with Red Pikmin to flower them. Have Louie get the Blue Pikmin once they're done collecting the nuggets and use them to break the wall if its not already broken. The small sections has two Dwarf Orange Bulborbs and one Orange Bulborb. The Orange Bulborb awakes easily, so try to kill the two Dwarf Orange Bulborbs and then awake the Orange Bulborb. To kill the Orange Bulborb, throw Pikmin at its face and it will eventually get stuck in a shaking phase while you keep throwing Pikmin. Collect the fruits the bulborbs dropped and get the gold nuggets nearby. Once these are collected, everything will be done!

Quotes[edit]

Briefing[edit]

You'd better get all the treasures near the water! I don't care WHAT you have to fight to get them—just do it!

Loading screen tip[edit]

PresidentDon't just let those wild creatures pass by unnoticed. They may be hiding some fruit!

During gameplay[edit]

In some situations during gameplay, Olimar or Louie will leave a comment.

Trigger Olimar Louie
Moving towards Red Onion or SPERO OlimarWe had quite a haul! LouieI wish I was eating the treasure we found right now.
Approaching the water OlimarBlue Pikmin will come in handy here. LouieRed Pikmin can't swim.
Approaching the Face Wrinkler OlimarHidden treasures abound in places like this. LouieSomething smells sour...
Approaching the 10 Nugget pile, Kingcap and Spotcap OlimarNectar can be very useful for carrying nuggets. If only we could find some. LouieSo shiny.
Approaching the Orange Bulborb OlimarThis is hard work, but I'm doing it for my family. LouieOrange is the scariest.

Assignment Report[edit]

We found a key, but we haven't seen anything it might unlock. I was hoping to pick up a small souvenir for my son, and this may be just the thing. Side note: although Louie doesn't say much around me, I've spotted him muttering to himself when he thinks no one is around. In many ways, he's even more of a mystery than the Pikmin.
