The Puffstool is an enemy in Pikmin 1 that appeared to be a huge walking fungus. It had a red capped mushroom head, and a tender yellow torso that was vulnerable. Not much is scientificaly known of it, but minimal details are supplied. It would run from your Pikmin and you had to swarm the feet of it to knock it over and it would land on its head. You then would throw Pikmin to attack it and then wait. If you finished it off, great, if not, it will jump back up and emit a strange gas that will affect your Pikmin, their heads will be replaced with mushrooms, and they turn purple. These Pikmin are known infamously as Mushroom Pikmin. They would go after you and attack you, and you could save them by attacking them with your regular Pikmin, however, this could also result in friendly fire and most of the time kills the possessed pikmin. Therefore, a strategy is to attack with Olimar, where the Puffstool is defenseless. The mushroom effect also wore off after a certain time, or if their leader was killed. This creature's head is worth 30 Pikmin, and in the Forest Navel, it dropped the Omega Stabilizer. It was also found in Challenge Mode, allowing a player to make more Pikmin. When defeated, the Puffstool can cause the Crushing Glitch. Usually to undo a Mushroom pikmin is to send one pikmin to attack a mushroom pikmin ONCE, the M.P. will turn pale for a second, and if done correctly, the pikmin will NOT die, and return to you, this method has about an 90% sucess, but the distant between you and the M.P. is close enough that the M.P. could then chase after you, when here, the pikmin following you may kill it, if the M.P. chases you, the pikmin following you have an 80% chance of killing it.
