The Yellow Wollyhop (イモガエル?, lit.: "Potato Frog"), known as the Yellow Wollywog depending on the game and region, is a frog-like enemy found throughout the Pikmin series. Yellow Wollyhops are common enemies found in the Pikmin series; appearing in multiple areas, caves, and multiple other game modes, such as Mission Mode and Challenge Mode. They even have their own figurine. The Yellow Wollyhop is the most commonly encountered enemy of the Amphituber family.
Yellow Wollyhops are large, frog-like creatures with a smooth, rubbery, and yellowish body along with a deep green-colored head. They have large, bulbous, eyes that sit at the top of their bodies. Their orange-hued limbs are short but powerful, giving them the power for their signature leaps. Their front legs are little more than stubby, rounded protrusions, almost vestigial in appearance, while their hind legs are slightly more developed, but still short, in proportion to their plump form. The feet are broad and flat, with slightly webbed toes, similar to real world frogs
Unlike most other enemies in the Pikmin series, the Yellow Wollyhop does not eat Pikmin, they instead jump and crush any unfortunate Pikmin that happens to be underneath where it lands. Despite their seemingly slow nature, Yellow Wollyhops are dangerous — capable of crushing dozens of Pikmin with one jump. They typically inhabit moist areas that contain large bodies of water.

Behavior
Yellow Wollyhops are frequently found in or near a body of water. They are moderately sturdy creatures, capable of withstanding attacks from Pikmin. When idle, Yellow Wollyhops will stay in one place, not moving about, and they will rub their faces with the front legs. Generally passive, Yellow Wollyhops will only attack by leaping into the air if a leader or Pikmin comes nearby. Once on the attack, Yellow Wollyhops will likely not pursue if their targets are on the move, rather they will return to their general starting location in short hops. Their attacks are sometimes sudden, and they can shake all attacking Pikmin from their bodies. Upon falling, their attack covers a considerable radius, capable of lethally crushing all Pikmin underneath themselves. Even if Yellow Wollyhops are defeated as it is about to fall, any Pikmin caught beneath it will still be killed. Such an attack can be prevented if Yellow Wollyhops are weighed down with at least 10 or so Pikmin.
Locations
Strategy
With Pikmin
These dangerous enemies must be dealt with carefully, as one false step could mean the loss of dozens of Pikmin with a single attack. Swarm with as many Pikmin as are on-hand and they should be able to weigh Yellow Wollyhops down to the point where they cannot jump; as their health dwindles, Yellow Wollyhops can often summon the energy to make a last-ditch leap into the air, so be prepared to call the Pikmin back when their health meter enters the red zone. Any Pikmin hanging onto Yellow Wollyhops when they land will be thrown off and possibly deflowered from the force of the impact, sometimes leading to death for non-Blue Pikmin if they are knocked into a nearby pool. Beware, as there is no limit to the number of Pikmin that can die at once.
Alternate methods
Due to the risk these enemies pose, punching them using Olimar's fist is a valid method in defeating them — especially if there are no nearby Blue Pikmin. They could also be lured away to reduce the chances of Pikmin death, using Olimar as bait for their jumps. If done carefully, Yellow Wollyhops could be isolates from any nearby ship parts, so they won't encounter any nearby Pikmin

Behavior
Yellow Wollyhops have changed little behaviorally compared to their Pikmin counterparts. They are, in general, slightly weaker than they are in Pikmin, with less hit points, they have a smaller radius on their attacks, and they are easier to weigh down. Additionally, when Yellow Wollyhops are defeated mid-air, their falling bodies will not kill any Pikmin beneath it. In this game exclusively, the leader can also approach them from behind without them noticing. The albino Wollyhop, however, can notice leader and Pikmin from any angle, as long as they are in range.
Locations
Strategy
With Pikmin
Yellow Wollyhops are much harder to ground in Pikmin 2, even if numerous Pikmin are thrown onto their backs, but swarming can still be an effective strategy, as the radius within which Yellow Wollyhops can crush Pikmin is substantially smaller than in the first game. Purple Pikmin will also work exceedingly well when thrown at this beast in large numbers, as each one carries the chance of stunning it, preventing it from fighting back. Note that if its health is completely depleted while in the air, it falls to the ground earlier than usual, crushing any Pikmin below it. A lot of Yellow Wollyhops are present in large bodies of water, meaning that Blue Pikmin should be the go-to for attacking them.
Alternate methods
Even so, the safer strategy is simply to punch it with leaders, especially if the Rocket Fist upgrade is available. However, this method has its own dangers, too. The leaders can get "comboed" by the creatures, getting knocked over when it jumps and, as they are getting back up, again when it lands.

Amphicaris frodendum
Amphituber family
This magnificent specimen has the brightest gold coloration and the greatest number of lateral spots of any member in the amphituber family. This species seems to have lost some swimming proficiency with the evolutionary adaptation that granted it greater jumping ability. The amphituber inhabits aquatic shallows and shows an instinctive drive to jump upon and squash smaller creatures.”

Behavior
Yellow Wollyhops (referred to as Yellow Wollywogs) are the only type of Wollyhops to appear in this game. They have experienced one notable change: as they inflate their throats to float in midair, they can now float for a small but randomly chosen amount of time, making it less predictable and more urgent to avoid. They also have a 360° field of view, meaning they can detect Pikmin and leaders from behind, unlike in the past two games. However, they cannot crush the newly-introduced Rock Pikmin with their attacks. This is the only game in the series besides Hey! Pikmin to have them named Wollywogs instead of changing to Wollyhops. This does not apply for the European version of the game.
Locations
Strategy
With Pikmin
Yellow Wollyhops are much easier to defeat in Pikmin 3, because of the inclusion of Rock Pikmin, who are immune to being crushed. As such, they may be encountered as early as the second day. However, as some are found in water, Blue Pikmin must be used to defeat the water-dwelling Wollyhops. They are even more dangerous as they puff up to crush Pikmin in a larger area. One strategy is to lure them from the water to the shore, then use Rock Pikmin to attack it, whistling them back when low on throwable Pikmin. It can be noted that the two Yellow Wollywogs in Fortress of Festivity on Battle enemies! mode in Mission Mode are significantly weaker than the average one, and it seems like the leader or Pikmin must get closer to them than normal to make them attack.
Alternate methods
Yellow Wollyhops can be found in areas that feature numberous Bomb Rocks, so just throwing one of them at the Yellow Wollyhops will instantly defeat them. Additionally, due to how long it takes them to react, jump, and land, just ignoring them can be a useful strategy — provided enough Pikmin are carrying the object back.

“Structural flaw: weak hide
Weight: 5
There are definite signs of intelligence in this brute. It always faces its prey first, as if to gauge the distance, before jumping into the air for a stomp. If you don't move while it hangs for a moment in midair, you could lose a lot of Pikmin. It's big, but not strong—as few as five Pikmin can weigh it down so it can't jump. Rock Pikmin also have nothing to fear from it.”

Poids: 5

“I don't understand how it manages to hang in the air at the height of its jumps, but I don't have to understand. I just have to get out of the way, and its weird hang time helps a lot with that. Let that be a lesson: don't stand around gawking at a creature's weird attack moves—do something about it!”

Behavior
Just like the Yellow Wollyhops in Pikmin 3, Yellow Wollyhops, as well as Wollyhops, have very similar behaviors, and follow the same move set as in Pikmin 3. However, the Yellow Wollyhop will move in short hops until it gets to jumping range, but the Wollyhop uses large jumps immediately to get around, and have a farther attack range.
Locations
Strategy
With Pikmin
Once more, just like in Pikmin 3, Yellow Wollyhops are easy to defeat with the use of Rock Pikmin, due to their crush immunity. The earliest instance Yellow Wollyhops can be encountered are in the Blossoming Arcadia; the same for Rock Pikmin. By throwing Rock Pikmin at the creature, or rushing using the Charging Horn or the Lineup Trumpet, the creature can be swiftly defeated. Additionally, Ice Pikmin can be used to freeze Yellow Wollyhops, making them incapable of movement — meaning all Pikmin types can be used for a short while without risk of being crushed. Finally, Yellow Wollyhops are often encountered in water, so Blue Pikmin are useful for taking these beasts out.
Alternate methods
If there are no Rock Pikmin available, or there are few Pikmin in the squad, having Oatchi attack Yellow Wollyhops is a valid strategy. If Oatchi has been sufficiently upgrades, then it is quite possible for him to defeat these enemies on his own. Make sure he has a decently levelled Rush and Chomp, as well as either the Pup Air Armor or
Pup Tuff Stuff.
If an Ice Blast were to detonate while a Yellow Wollyhop is mid-jump, then once it falls back to the ground, it will instantly shatter. The same can be said if it is frozen from any Ice Pikmin mid-air.

Behavior
Unlike the Yellow Wollyhops found in previous games, these Yellow Wollyhops passively wander a set area, ignoring Olimar and his Pikmin. They are only found in the Downpour Thicket. Although they ignore him, if Olimar were to touch one, it will cause him damage, although Pikmin can walk through unscathed. If attacked, Yellow Wollyhops will become hostile, and attempt to flatten Olimar first, or any Pikmin if Olimar isn't in range. Note that Yellow Wollyhops always look before they jump.
Locations
Strategy
With Pikmin
If one wishes to defeat Yellow Wollyhops, simply throwing your Pikmin on top of their heads and then whistling them back before they're thrown off will work; although it will take some time. If the Pikmin are thrown off, depending on the placement of Olimar, the Yellow Wollyhop, may end up between the Pikmin and Olimar. So timing the whistle is beneficial to avoiding unneeded Pikmin losses. The Yellow Wollyhop can only defeat Pikmin when landing from an attack.
Alternate methods
Due to Yellow Wollyhops ignoring Olimar at first, and the fact that they only cause to harm to Pikmin unless attacking, taking damage and using the invincibility to walk through is a viable option. If attacked, they will jump directly above Olimar, leaving enough time to walk past.

Naming
- See more: Amphituber family#Naming and Wolpole#Naming.
- Common name: Yellow Wollyhop or Yellow Wollywog, depending on game and version.
The enemy is called the Yellow Wollywog in both American English and British English versions of Pikmin and Pikmin 2, but in New Play Control! Pikmin, New Play Control! Pikmin 2, Pikmin 3, Hey! Pikmin, and Pikmin 3 Deluxe, the enemy is called the Yellow Wollywog in the American English version and the Yellow Wollyhop in the British English version. In the Nintendo Switch Versions of Pikmin and Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 4, the enemy is called the Yellow Wollyhop in both English versions.
Although never addressed by Nintendo, it is a common belief among fans that the change was made due to the word "wog" being a racial slur in British and Australian English.
The "Yellow" in its name distinguishes it from the regular Wollyhop. Although the Yellow Wollyhop is the one whose name uses a color identifier to distinguish it from the "common" Wollyhop, the reality is that the Yellow Wollyhop is the vastly more common one. This is because the Wolpole grows into a mature Yellow Wollyhop, and there is no tadpole equivalent for the while colored Wollyhop, and because this creature's internal name is the one to use the common "frog" name. - Japanese nickname: イモガエル?, lit.: "Potato Frog". イモ? means potato, which refers to its shape, while ガエル? is close to カエル?, which means frog.
- Japanese name: ダルマイモガエル?, lit.: "Daruma Potato Frog". It is shared with the Wolpole.
- Scientific name: Amphicaris frondiferorum. Prior to the Switch port of Pikmin 2, the species name was frondendum, which is similar to the Latin frondeum, meaning "leaf-like". This may refer to the leaf-like tail of the Wolpole, which is its larval form.
- Internal names: Internally, it is known as
frog
in all games besides Hey! Pikmin, which uses the romanization of its Japanese name without any spaces,Imogaeru
. Its generator name isenemy_jump_fall
, referring to its ability to jump and fall. - Prerelease: None.
