The Foolix (ミツモチ?, lit.: "Nectar Mochi") is a boss enemy in Pikmin 4. A relative of the Goolix, it is found in the fourth and final sublevel of the Secluded Courtyard. It resembles a yellowish amoeba with an orange star-shaped nucleus, which possesses a flagellum-like tail.

Behavior
Initially, the Foolix disguises itself as a blob of nectar, waiting for the player or Pikmin to draw near. It will attack when either of them get close.
Unlike the Goolix, its primary attack is to absorb Pikmin (and possibly the player) into its body; It is also far more aggressive in its movements and will try to stretch itself in order to engulf them more effectively. After some time, any captured Pikmin will be digested and die. It will try to face the player at all times, as the tail of its nucleus is its weakness. When the tail is pulled with the strength of 15 Pikmin, it will burst into pieces and be vulnerable to attack. Eventually, it will wave its flagellum in the air and recollect its cytoplasm. When it reforms, any Pikmin attacking the Foolix will be engulfed.
Strategy
The following article or section contains guides. |
The Foolix can be fought in one of two ways: the first is to get behind it and have Oatchi or at least 15 Pikmin pull on its tail when it extends through its cytoplasm, which will cause its nucleus to burst out of its membrane and leave it vulnerable until it can reform its cytoplasm. Using Ice Pikmin after its out of the goo will freeze it before it can recover. A bomb rock will also cause the Foolix to burst if it is engulfed.
Alternatively, Ice Pikmin can be used to freeze and shatter the Foolix for the same effect if it engulfs them, although this must be done quickly to avoid Pikmin losses since any Pikmin it has engulfed will be trapped inside it. With 100 Pikmin, the Foolix freezes in about one second, and Oatchi's Rush can instantly break it. By freezing the Foolix after the break, it's possible to defeat in two cycles without Spicy Spray.

Dalmo's Notes
"If you take the microorganisms I used to peer at through my microscope as a child and blow them up much, MUCH bigger, this is what you get. A huge, single-celled sweetie, it blorpily sloshes around in search of food. To this giant, we're the microorganisms!"
Olimar's Notes
"A member of the Goolix family, this primitive life-form is made up of a single cell, which is quite odd given its size. Its nucleus is shaped like a bulbous star, and individuals move by using the fin at the end of its flagellum-like tail to quickly expand and contract its gelatinous body.
If the nucleus is removed, its soft body loses all structure and splatters. But as long as the nucleus is still alive, the Foolix can return to its original form.
Usually, the Foolix will mimic nectar and wait for its prey. Its gel, which includes fire-extinguishing fluids, will then expand to capture and feed on unsuspecting organisms."
Louie's Notes
"Gently remove the jellied parts. Add fruit and a sweetener of your choice, and serve as a gelatin dessert."

Translation
“It has a gelatinous body with a single star-shaped nucleus with a fin-like flagellum. In spite of its huge body, it is a primitive life-form made up of a single cell.
Feature #1: Mimicry
- It ambushes its prey by mimicking nectar.
- (Image text: "When approached, it suddenly grows to a gigantic size and feeds on prey by taking it into its body, which contains digestive juices")
Feature #2: Gelatinous body
- It moves by stretching and contracting its body and using its fin-like flagellum.
- (Image text:
- "If the nucleus is removed from the body, the body splatters"
- "After a while, the droplets gather and it returns to its original form")”
Naming
- Common name: Foolix. This is similar to the Goolix, but with "Fool" instead of "Goo". This is likely in reference to how it fools creatures by pretending to be a drop of nectar.
- Japanese nickname: ミツモチ?. 蜜? means nectar, referring to how it disguises itself as nectar to attract prey. Mochi is a type of Japanese rice cake.
- Japanese name: オナガホシミツモチ?, lit.: "Long tail star Mitsumochi". 尾? means tail, 長? means long and 星? means star, referring to it's star-shaped nucleus.
- Scientific name: Mononuclei stellacodus. Mononuclei means "one nucleus", and stellacodus could describe the creature's star-shaped nucleus.
- Internal names:
MITSUMOCHI
. It is the same as the Japanese common name. - Prerelease: None.

Trivia
- Freezing a Foolix while a bomb rock is engulfed will disarm the bomb. When the ice is broken, the bomb rock will be dropped next to the now-exposed nucleus. Assuming that no leaders intervene, the Foolix will inadvertently pull in and rearm the same bomb rock during its reformation process; the bomb will then explode and burst the cytoplasm again.
