Chillyhops (ヒヤシイモ?, lit.: "Chilled Potato") are an enemy in Pikmin 4. They are an ice variant of the Yellow Wollyhop and release icy air when they land after jumping that freezes all non-Ice Pikmin. Aside from that, they behave identically to their non-ice counterparts. Chillyhops are also blue and white in coloration to go with their icy theme. However, they don't actually freeze Pikmin that touch them, unlike other ice enemies such as the Frosty Bulborb.

Behavior
Chillyhops act the same as Yellow Wollyhops, sitting in one place until they are disturbed by the player and their Pikmin. They then proceed to leap into the air towards the player, briefly hover in place, and slam down, killing all Pikmin they land on. Unlike the Yellow Wollyhop, they also leave ice on the ground where they land that freezes all non-Ice Pikmin and leaders. This allows them to even crush Rock Pikmin on soft ground. Chillyhops can also shake Pikmin off of themselves, potentially leaving Pikmin vulnerable to being crushed or frozen. Chillyhops cannot be frozen by Ice Pikmin or Ice Blasts.
Appearance
The Chillyhop looks almost identical to the Yellow Wollyhop, with the only difference being the coloration. Chillyhops have mostly white bodies with blue spots, a darker blue top, and purple feet.

Strategy
The following article or section contains guides. |
Chillyhops can be defeated easily with a moderately large squad of Ice Pikmin. There are two ways to deal with them, you can either quickly throw all your Pikmin onto them, or you can throw them all on at once using Oatchi's rush ability. The second option is the best one as it also stuns the Chillyhop, giving your Pikmin more time to attack them. If your Pikmin get shook off, just whistle them all back to you and repeat.
Notes
Dalmo's Notes
Olimar's Notes
“When squashing prey with its mighty leap, the Chillyhop secretes a bodily fluid made up of ammonium nitrate, urea, and water. This causes an endothermic reaction that rapidly freezes its prey, making its attack all the more lethal.
After squashing the prey, it gets sucked up through the Chillyhop's belly. Since this species can store its food in a slightly chilled state without eating it for a time, it easily adapts to environments where prey is scarce.”Louie's Notes
