There are some minor characters mentioned in the Pikmin series, but are never given any more importance to the plot than the main leaders and other similar characters. Some of these supporting characters include family members to the main cast. Because some of these are only briefly mentioned, little is known about them, such as their name.

Olimar's family

Olimar's known family consists of his wife, his son, his daughter, and his pet, Bulbie. Since Olimar works for Hocotate Freight, it seems he gets little time to spend with his family. In Pikmin 3, he addresses this by stating that he will take his whole family on a vacation when he gets home. Judging from the Pikmin 2 mail, it seems that Olimar's family has no responsibility for handling money, because they spend Olimar's bonuses on things like trips to the hot springs, and his son states that he should send in a bonus check for a spam mail offer.

Olimar's wife is a woman who cares much about her kids, but is usually irresponsible when it comes to money. When Olimar's special bonuses arrive at his house, she often uses the money to buy her kids what they have been wanting.[1][2] However, it seems that money can make the best of her. Whenever the bonuses come in, she seems to get stricter on her kids, and might be lacking in common sense, as Olimar's son states that she wants things like sending Bulbie to the circus.[3] She admits to sometimes going to beaches and theaters all day until the kids come home.[4]

After losing a large amount of money, she realizes the mistake she made, and loosens back up into her former self. In the original versions of Pikmin 2, this resulted from her wasting money on lottery tickets;[5] the Nintendo Switch port alters the mail to say that she was pickpocketed.[6] In both cases, the Japanese version of the mail say that she was pickpocketed at a casino. After time has passed, she pleads for Olimar to come home (very lovingly), promising his favorite meal – pikpik carrot soup.[7]

At one point during Pikmin 2, she tried to apply for a part-time job, but got rejected in favor of younger employees.[8] Sometime after this, she instead gets a job as a boss as mentioned in Hey! Pikmin.[9]

In Pikmin 2, her age becomes indirectly noted, given that Olimar mentions his wife's wrinkles – a sign of elderhood. He plans to take her on vacation to calm her down.[10] At some point after collecting all 201 treasures in Pikmin 2, she will send a repeating message asking Olimar to come home. The only way to stop these messages is to open a new save file.

Olimar's son is a standard young boy. He seems to be fascinated by his father's adventures, and seems to envy him.[11] He is addicted to video games,[12] and enjoys them more than studying, in contrast to Olimar's daughter. Judging by some of his mail, he must be in his teenager years, and is anxious with girls.[13][14] He always yearns for his father to come home, and doesn't like it when his mother becomes strict because of the pay bonuses, asking his father to come home to fix the mess. He seems to be easily won over, as he asks if he should send in Olimar's bonus check for a piece of spam mail.[15]

Olimar's son is also known to have gifted his father the Sagittarius. Because of this, some fans nickname the boy "Sagittarius".

Olimar's daughter is seen only wearing a pink suit with a hood of sorts, and has little personality. In her mail she sends in Pikmin 2, she discusses briefly how she is being pressured to become a proper lady, and asks Olimar what she should do.[16][17] She also speaks about how Olimar's wife has changed during the absence of her husband. She attends some school on Hocotate, based on the fact that her mother gets strict about her writing and studying.[16] She also appears to like jewelry, as noted by Olimar on some treasures. Despite these mature traits, she is depicted as a baby in a Pikmin voyage log, and in the bulletin board in The Night Juicer yet her brother seems the same age in both. This is likely a consistency error.

Olimar's daughter is known to have gifted the Libra to her father, and that the Libra is her astrological sign. Because of this, some fans give her the nickname "Libra". She also appears as a sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The sticker increases Pikmin attack damage by 7%.

Bulbie

Captain Olimar's family, as shown in the voyage log for Pikmin.

Bulbie is Olimar's family pet space dog.[3] He is briefly mentioned in Pikmin and Hey! Pikmin, and is described to physically resemble a Bulborb, as the voyage log he's seen in depicts him with eye-stalks, a wide mouth, and two legs. He is also described as very lazy, which is sometimes a characteristic of real world dogs.[18] While Olimar is away from his family in Pikmin 2, Bulbie gets thin after his family forgets to feed him.[19] He later eats many pikpik carrots and returns to normal.[20] Olimar's wife also threatens to send Bulbie away to the circus during this time.[3]

Olimar's parents

Olimar's mother and father are briefly mentioned in his notes on the Priceless Statue and Worthless Statue respectively in the Nintendo GameCube and New Play Control! versions of Pikmin 2. Olimar sees his father as slightly worthless and, at a first glance being impressive, but being considered "cheap" upon closer inspection. Olimar's mother is reminisced by him when writing the notes for the Priceless Statue, and notes how the treasure is similar to a gift he once gave her for Mother's Day. Although he likes her, he admits there are times where he is not fond of her. Finally, the notes on the Taste Sensation also mention Olimar's mother, in that Olimar describes the treasure's taste to be similar to something his mother has cooked for him by hand.

Louie's family

The only member of Louie's family is mentioned in Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 4, his grandmother.

Louie's grandmother shows a lot of love for Louie, as well as a lot of concern as he is missing for part of Pikmin 2.[21] In her mail, she describes fond memories of Louie as a boy and how bugs loved him (or rather, loved biting him).[22] She sometimes sang a special lullaby to put him to sleep.[23] She also talks about how she made Louie eat bugs[24] and how he loves pikpik carrots,[25] and she apparently sends preserved bug food with her mail,[21] though it is never actually seen or detailed. At least in Louie's youth, his grandmother lived near a mountain which he suggests was muddy.[26] Louie claims that she likes round, shiny objects.[27][28] It appears as though she is not alone, given how at one point she uses the term "we" in one of her mails.[25]

After all the treasures in the game have been collected, Louie's grandmother sends one final message, in which she shows her pride in how Louie has become an "extraordinary man".[29] In the GameCube and Wii versions of Pikmin 2, she mistakenly referred to herself as Louie's "dad" in this message, likely due to ババ? (lit.: "grandmother") being misread as パパ? (lit.: "dad"). This mistake is not present in the Japanese version, and is fixed in the Switch port, where the word "nana" is used instead. The same mistake was fixed with his "auntie" which is retconned as his grandmother in the Switch port.

In his voyage log in Pikmin 4, Louie indirectly mentions that his grandmother sent him cookies to eat during his mission to rescue Captain Olimar. Louie grew tired of her cookies, so he started cooking creatures from PNF-404 instead.[30]

The President's family

The President has only one known member in his family, his wife.

The President's wife is quite a sassy woman and the "real boss" of Hocotate Freight. She reveals to constantly be yelling at her husband for loafing around. At one point, she sends the President mail stating that his report is wrong.[31] She also reveals that the ship sends her a report at the end of every day, and says that the ship knows that she is the real boss.[32]

During the President's absence, she begins turning the company around for the better.[33] Once all the treasures are retrieved, she thanks her husband and says she sees him "in a new light". This implies that she is very responsible about work.

Alph's family

Alph has only one known important member in his family: his grandfather, Drake. Alph talks about him sometimes while aboard the S.S. Drake. He also has many siblings.

Drake

Very little is known about Drake. All that is known about him is that he designed the S.S. Drake[34] and that he knows about some of Hocotate's history. Other than that, it is said that Alph spent a lot of time with his grandfather as a child.[35] As a result, he looks up to Drake as a role model. Where Alph's comments on the Hermit Crawmad say "Although I have heard that an intentional flaw lends a certain charm to one's creations", the Japanese version reveals this was something Alph heard from his grandfather.

The S.S. Drake's trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U mentions that the name "Drake" may remind players of the second man to circumnavigate the globe, Sir Francis Drake.

Because Drake's name begins with D, some fans believe that this would be the name of the fourth playable leader, had the developers not cut the character off during development.

Alph's siblings

Alph also has twelve older brothers, one older sister, and one younger brother. Alph mentioned how his older sister used to always share food with him even when it was scarce.[36] Other than that, Alph doesn't talk much about them. It is implied that Yorke from Pikmin 4 is one of Alph's siblings.

Brittany's family

Brittany also has only one known member of her family – Auntie Bea. However, Nelle is implied to be a relative of hers.

Auntie Bea

Auntie Bea is Brittany's aunt. She is known for her famous fruit pastries on Koppai.[37] Auntie Bea's hair is similar to the color of the Dusk Pustules, and in Brittany's notes on the same fruit, she states that to be a "rebellious streak", implying most Koppaites don't have that color of hair naturally.[38] Auntie Bea's nose is similar in shape to the Tremendous Sniffer, and she is the envy of the family because of her nose.[39] She treated Brittany with lots of love, giving her sweets and such, and Brittany likes her because of it.

Charlie's pets

None of Charlie's blood relatives are ever named, but two pets are mentioned. Alph also mentions that he's not sure if Charlie is married or not.[40]

Elizabeth

In a few check ins, Alph asks Charlie who "Elizabeth" is, Charlie explains that Elizabeth is his pet duck with which he shares a strong bond with and that he considers her his soulmate.[41] This pet is directly stated to be a duck,[42] so together with Charlie's rubber ducky and Brittany's mention of geese, Koppai must have animal species that closely resembles those of Earth.

Charlie's dog

In the US version, Brittany's notes on the Dawn Pustules imply that Charlie may have a pet dog. Charlie is apparently said to have painted his dog to match his favorite color – the shade of green seen on his spacesuit.[43] In the European version, there is no mention of a dog at all.

The Shepherd family

The Shepherd family history in Pikmin 4 contains the different captains of the Rescue Corps over the generations, all being related to Erma Shepherd. Most of them are known through the "Shepherd Family History" section of the Rescue Journal, with the exception of Erma's father who she mentions in her own diary.[44]

In Pikmin 4, there are several travelers that are not associated with the Rescue Corps that have become stranded on PNF-404. They will stay at the Rescue Command Post upon being rescued, and some provide useful functions or give the player side missions.

Schnauz

Schnauz is a treasure appraiser. Rescuing him unlocks the Treasure Catalog. His name alludes to Schnauzers. He is from the planet Siguray. When chatting to him after his rescue he reveals that he loves treasure both for its monetary value, and also for its sentimental value, although one line of dialogue suggests that the former is more important. He plans on finding more treasure on other planets as soon as he is off of this one.

Dalmo

Dalmo is an animal enthusiast. Rescuing him unlocks the Piklopedia. His name alludes to Dalmatians. He is from the planet Sozor. In his post rescue dialogue he mentions that after seeing Captain Olimar's Voyage log he wanted to come to this planet to see new creatures.

Corgwin

Corgwin is a general contractor. Rescuing him unlocks the ability to replay Dandori Battles. His name alludes to Welsh Corgis. He is from the planet Moyama. In his post rescue chat he mentions that he learned of PNF-404 on the news, he believed that a lot of people would try to move there so he decided to do so as well. Before losing consciousness they saw a Leafling as he was being attacked by a creature, and they believed that the Leafling was Turning castaways into leaflings for a reason. As a leafling he mentions that all he could think was how to better mange job sites, improve worker effciency, and give better direction, he also mentions that all of that thinking was exhausting.

Jin

Jin is a space explorer. Rescuing him unlocks the ability to replay Dandori Challenges. His name alludes to Korean Jindos. He is from the planet Flukuey. Jin makes it possible to replay Dandori Challenges by prompting the player to meditate, allowing them to remember any challenge perfectly even though no one has physical access to the caves anymore. In post rescue dialogue he mentions that his dream was to explore uncharted planets as an adventurer, but no new planets had been discovered sense Jin was born, as soon as Olimar's SOS broadcast was heard Jim immediately flew over to PNF-404. When describing the crash he quotes the following, "When I came to this planet, our spaceship broke down. I was thrown vilently out as it crashed." this seems to imply that while jin had come here alone he co-owned the spaceship with some unknown person.

Puddle

Puddle is a universal stylist. Rescuing him unlocks the ability to edit the player character's appearance and name. His name alludes to Poodles. He is from the planet Enohay. When chatting with Puddle he has a unique way of speaking by referring to himself in the 3rd person for the start of each conversation before switching to "I". Puddle implies that changing the look of the player character is cannon with explanation on how it works. Puddle also refuses to explain where he is from simply saying "Haha, THAT is a secret! Being mysterious is a fashion choice. So I don't reveal details just like I don't wear socks with sandals.", however his ID badge says that Puddle is from Enohay like Vonda, and Bernise.

Chet

Chet is a research task force lead. His name may allude to the Shetland Sheepdog. He is from the planet Mihama. He also wrote the reports found on the Japanese Pikmin Garden web site. Chet is the leader of the Research group sent to PNF-404 by the Interstellar Federation (a possible reference to Metroid's Galactic Federation) in order to see if it would make as a good living envirement, and see what the natural resources are. Him and his crew, which consists of François, Pitunia, Sy, Osa, Kit, Twyla, Sammy, Komo, and Ren. Chet is a kindhearted man who is very empathetic, congratulating the player on their hard work hoping that there isn't any more crash victims and complementing his team, while described as a leader he acknowledges that he doesn't do all that much mostly ending up napping, and when not doing that he takes care of environmental concerns so that his team is free to immerse themselves into their research, while he doesn't do much actual work his ID card says that he is the glue holding the team together most likely do to his charming personality. He also frequently mentions how great of a chef Ren is and even once mentions that he wonders if he could whip up a meal using the local wildlife as ingredients he takes that back saying "On second thought, I don't imagine anyone would want to eat that" an obvious joke on Louie's appetite.

François

François is a research task force recruit. His name may allude to the French Bulldog. He is from the planet Ooji. He is one of two Castaways that have a repeating quest so that the player can always obtain more raw material. In his post rescue dialogue François mentions seeing Glow Pikmin on the Rescue Corps's relay and mentioning that the Glow Pikmin will flower automatically after some time.

Pitunia

Pitunia is a research task force recruit. Her name alludes to Pit bulls. She is from the planet Ogura and claims to have been made in a biocrafter, an "organic factory that creates other life".[45] she believes that the Onion is also a Biocrafter. She is an evolutionary biologist sent as a member of Chet's crew to study PNF-404. While it is unknown how she feels about most of her team she does frequently talk to Sy, the environmental ecologist to discus science.

Sy

Sy is a research task force recruit that is researching Pikmin ecology. Their name may allude to the Siberian Husky. They are from the planet Ogura. They are quite talented for their age as they entered university at a "very young age" and joined Chet's research team to investigate PNF-404. When Sy landed on PNF-404 Sy did not fall unconscious, rather they began exploring and forgot to check their suit's battery which caused the suit to enter forced-sleep mode. Sy is incredibly interested in both Pikmin and the Onion, making several statements and theories on how Onions operate, one such theory is that the Onion has a mind and will of its own. Sy and Pitunia (coworkers on the research team) each have their own theories on the Onion, Pitunia claims that the Onion was artificial or in some way intently created, however Sy belives that because the Onion is alive with it's own will and needs it must mean that it is a natural specimen.

Osa

Osa is a research task force recruit, specializing in archaeology. His name may allude to the Tosa Inu. He is from the planet Siguray. Osa is another member of Chet's crew, getting int archeology because "archeology is FUN!" he says that the player character reminds him of Kit being impressed by what you do. Osa's favorite part of archeology is finding structures and theorizing who/ what could have built them as well as finding out more about past civilisations.

Kit

Kit is a research task force recruit that's studying raw materials. His name may allude to the Akita Inu. He is from the planet Siguray. Kit is one of many minor characters that can have different color hair this may have to do with the color the leaves were as a leafling [46]. Kit is another member of Chet's team. He is Osa's junior and it is thanks to him that Kit became part of the task force. Kit is a lot more slow and methodical compared to Osa, however he admires Osa's energy. Kit has put some research into ores and minerals on PNF-404 as well as raw material, he had figured out that raw material is not a mineral but instead a "highly pure conglomeration of fossilized creature remains" something that has not been observed elsewhere in the universe leading Kit to believe that either it's a process that happens only on PNF-404 or through a "unknown life-fourm". Kit is very interested in minerals in one quote saying "The resources I've found on this planet are exceptional! Did you know that the purity of the minerals in the ground here is..." he cuts off before apologizing for rambling, his favorite mineral is iron and talks about oxidation. Kit claims that when he found a "beautiful ore that shimmers in all the colors of the rainbow" on PNF-404 and "it cracked when I fell to the surface" the ore may be referencing bismuth a colorful and brittle ore, this message also implies that the research crew landed on PNF-404 without issue but as they were taking off they crashed due to the fact that Kit found bismuth "here" and it cracked as he "fell to the surface".

Twyla

Twyla is a research task force recruit that enjoys geology. Her name alludes to Rottweiler dogs. She is from the planet Conohan. When Twyla agreed to join Chet's research task force, something urged to her by her professor, she was confident however, ever sense landing she has felt completely out of her depth, she is much more comfortable in a lab environment then out on the field. After the crash Twyla doesn't understand how the rest of the task force is calm about their situation. Twyla also remarks about Keesh (a student who also crashed) and how Keesh keeps asking geology questions to Twyla that even she doesn't know the answers on, Twyla not wanting to not be seen as smart has made countless excuses to avoid Keesh. After the player rescues Komo, Twyla talks about her, saying that she is shy like her she helped Twyla not be to scared then, and does so now. Twyla describes Komo as a irreplaceable friend she listens sincerely to everything Twyla talks about and Twyla does the same. After Komo is saved Twyla starts to have a different view on past events, saying that now they have a great opportunity to study PNF-404, saying that her professor was right to push Twyla into this task force in order to get some out of lab experience, goes outside the base camp with Komo to study the planet's soil and it's water purifying properties, and when Keesh asks more questions about geology she starts being honest saying that she doesn't know, but they are both in the midst of their education and can learn together.

Sammy

Sammy is a research task force recruit that loves the sky. His name may allude to Samoyed dogs. He is from the planet Ocobo, a planet that rain's so much that for all but one day it is constant storms. It is because of this Sammy loves anything to do with the clear sky: stars, sunsets and the blue sky.

Komo

Komo is part of Chet's research task force recruit studying hydrologic cycles. Her name alludes to Komondors. She is from the planet Tagwa. Komo is not great at making conversations, and tends to keep to herself, however with the help of the main character and from coworker, and friend Twyla she has opened up. With the help of Twyla's research into soil as a form of water-purification, Komo plans to use soil as a means to purify Tagwa's water supplies, it is hinted that the only clean water left on Tagwa has to be desalinating salt water to separate the salt from the water, Komo has said to have found a rock that tastes like salt, this seems to imply that on Tagwa salt is only found in oceans.

Ren

Ren is a member of Chet's research task force recruit that is studying flavor profiles. His name alludes to Pyrenean Mountain dogs. He is from the planet Enohee. He enjoys both the art of cooking and the science of herbal remedies admittedly for lessor ills such as a dish that could "make someone relax almost instantly". Like many members of the task force they are incredibly thankful for the player character and encourages them to take breaks. Ren speaks on why he was able to join the task force, saying that it was an "impassioned plea" to Chet is what allowed him to join, and due to the nature of his job as a chef he helps motivate everybody with a well cooked meal. During his stay on PNF-404 Ren has made a "mushroom risotto" with a sprinkle of ultra-spicy nectar while nobody ate it we know of the effects in one of the many post day dialogues. After leaving PNF-404 Ren plans on finding more flavors and ingredients.

She started streaming because the streamers she watched was always smiling, and she wanted that. It is also implied that Molly has a crush on Russ.

Spammers

Icon of a spammer from Pikmin 2.
An example of a spam icon from the Pikmin 2 mail.

There are five characters in Pikmin 2 that send spam e-mails after the debt has been repaid. The icons for these characters merely show a silhouette, leaving their appearances mostly unknown. They all attempt to advertise one thing or another, and include a real-world Internet address in their messages, for the players themselves to visit.

Spam 1

The first spam message the player will receive is from a person who is apparently very lonely and wants a friend to listen to their troubles. Based on the shady outline, this character is probably female.

Spam 2

The second spam message is from someone talking about saving tons of Pokos through bargains and cut-rate prices. Olimar's son also mentions that he received a similar message, and asks Olimar if he should send his bonus check.

Spam 3

The third spam message is received after Louie has been recovered. The sender talks about some device that accordingly "slices... dices... plays videogames... sends mail... wraps gifts" and "cures snoring".

Spam 4

The fourth spam message talks about changing jobs, and finding "the new you". It advertises an unseen company known as Hocotate Whiz.

Spam 5

The fifth and final spam message is received after all the treasures have been collected. It advertises music. It speaks of "Pikpik's greatest hits", implying that there is a band on Hocotate by the name of Pikpik.
