The Fireflap Bulborb (トビヒノマダラ?, lit.: "Flying Fire Spots") is a flying fiery enemy in Hey! Pikmin. It has no legs but it has wings and because of this it floats around in the air, and since its body is on fire, only Red Pikmin can be thrown at one to take it out.

These creatures fly around above Olimar and his Pikmin, occasionally dive-bombing and leaving a fiery projectile.

Strategy

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

Fireflap Bulborbs will swoop down and drop fireballs on anyone below. Luckily, they don't appear in levels with any Pikmin that aren't Red Pikmin, so the only one to worry about is Olimar. Keep your distance from the Bulborb and hurl a Pikmin at it from afar. Like most enemies in this game, they die in one hit.

Notes

Hey! Pikmin logs

This evolved Fiery Dwarf Bulblax has taken flight, it seems. It rains down flaming chunks of desiccated skin, an attack as effective as it is disgusting. Though given the nature of its projectiles, perhaps it doesn't mean to attack at all?

Naming

See more: Breadbug family#Naming and Grub-dog family#Naming.

The name is a combination of "fire" and "flap", in reference to how it flaps its wings. Despite being called a Bulborb, it is part of the breadbug family, along with various Bulborb mimics.

Its scientific name is Pansarus volcanus volanti. Volcanus is a play off of "volcano", eluding to its fiery exterior. This is also part of the species name for the Fiery Dwarf Bulblax, as well as the genus name for the Fiery Young Yellow Wollywog. Volanti is Latin for "flight".

Its internal name is tobihi. Its generator name is enemy_fly_ignite.
