Welcome

Hello, Espyo, and welcome to Pikipedia, a Wiki with information regarding Pikmin. The administration thanks you for registering, and has provided some useful links to help familiarize yourself with rules, regulations and other such facilities. We hope you like the place and decide to stay.

Pikipedia pages:

Wikipedia pages:

Also, the glitches you mentioned are interesting, but they aren't really easily reproducible, so they don't really meet our criteria for glitch articles. —Jimbo Jambo

About your suggested screenshots of enemies - you realise the Smoky Progg has a non-reel one further down the page?GP
The infobox probably shouldn't have the reel image though. Also, yeah, the ClamClamp really needs a better iamge. —Jimbo Jambo

Voyage Log

Not to make you feel uncomfortable, but I'd like you thank you for doing Olimar's voyage logs. I spent hours and days last winter doing data entry for the treasure and enemy notes, so I know how it feels. —Jimbo Jambo

Gee... Thanks. It really is a sort of complicated process, but nonetheless, fairly easy. What you searched yourself was probably some very hard work as well. As for the journal entries themselves, I really believe Nintendo made 60, seeing as the page currently has 53, and I strongly doubt that they made a number as weird as 53 for entries. I'll try to find them all as time passes by. [SRB2]EspyoT
Not so much hard as tedious, but yeah. —Jimbo Jambo

I think I know the ones you're missing, because I've gotten these entries before. They're listed as enemies:

  • Puffstool (I got the message before, but I can only remember his drawing of it, no descriptions)
  • Beady Long Legs (He points out that the center orb is the "sole weakpoint")
  • Burrowing Snagret (His drawing has an arrow that shows where you have to attack)
  • Armored Cannon Beetle (He talks about clogging up the airhole)
  • Wollwog ("There is a troublesome creature by the water...")
  • Candypop Bud (Talks about how it changes Pikmin colors.)
  • Goolix (The picture shows Pikmin staring at the Goolix with a question mark. This might be #60 and the last entry.)
  • Breadbug (this one's not a definite. But if it is, then this is #61...) Portal-Kombat
Thanks! I've been trying for ever to get those entries, but it's just very hard... I won't give up until I find all 60, though. I added the ones that were missing to my user page. Thanks again. [SRB2]EspyoT

I think this is how I got entries for the enemies while playing Pikmin:

  • Do a little bit of damage
  • Take a little bit of damage
  • Maybe lose a couple Pikmin
  • Go to Sunset (Pretty much ensures that nothing else will happen that day to give you a different entry)

This isn't 100% accurate, but it's probably the best way to get the entries. Good luck! (Note: I think that the Breadbug one IS REAL. The picture shows the Breadbug fighting over a pellet with a Pikmin.)Portal-Kombat

OK, I'm really gonna need some help if I am to complete the Voyage Log.

  • Burrowing Snagret: I tried
    • Getting hit by hit
    • Throw a Pikmin at it
    • Swarm it
    • Let some Pikmin get eaten
    • Swarmed it when it's head got stuck (maybe Olimar points out that it's head gets stuck at times).

And still haven't got it! What else can I do? Any suggestions?

  • Candypop bud: Not much to do, but I tried:
    • Throwing 10 Pikmin of the same color, and plucking them
    • Throwing 10 Pikmin of different colors and plucking them
    • Throwing so many Pikmin, it wilted
    • Running around it pressing A :S

No result... I really don't think there's any other thing I can do with it... Suggestions?

  • For the other enemies, I'm going to have to try repassing the game, and examining them before I kill them (Beady Long Legs, Puffstool, Breadbug). [SRB2]EspyoT

Olimar's Monologues

You probably already know this, but if Olimar takes enough damage so that he almost dies you'll get a monologue. Interestingly enough this stops you from dying from an attack that would have normally killed you! Portal-Kombat

Yeah, I knew. Just today I was getting hurt by a fire geyser, and died >_> I then remembered that there is this monologue... I tried later to recall it, but I was to busy trying to complete in 10 days, so I can copy the file to another slot, and on that slot, spend the rest of the 20 days always examining an enemy to see if I can get it's voyage log entry. [SRB2]EspyoT
Fire's really deadly stuff in Pikmin 1. You're trying to beat it in 10 days? My record's 12. Anyways don't kill the enemy you're examining. Otherwise you probably won't get the notes. (Just my guess.) Portal-Kombat

Want me to make you a great sig?Peanut64

!Cough!advertising! Huh? Oh. Hmm... That's OK. I don't really pay much attention to the sig anyway. [SRB2]EspyoT

Strange pikmin sounds

Okay, i had a weird event like yours. it was like:

  • I started the game, the pikmin went "little"
  • I started The game, the pikmin went "hmmm"
  • I started the game, a weird noise came. i think it's an emperor bulblax.

– Redpikminflamethrower

Yep, pretty darn strange... As far as I remember, it happened to me 4 times, and all of them where "Whoooooa!" {EspyoT}

Indeed. many times. (A Joke on "Indeed, many flab." a said by prezintenden) – Redpikminflamethrower

Actually it was Green on my talk page. A WET FLAG IS AN UNHAPPY FLAG!!! I'm ~LonelyRedpikminsprite.jpgTurret~ And I approve this message.

Nintendo Intro

I also heard the "Whooooo" once instead of the classical "Pikmin" in the beginning of the game. It should be random, and with a very low probability of hearing other sounds. Just like in Double Dash the Lakitu was holding different objects. Artwork of an Orange Bulborb. Snake boss14 File:Hairybulborb.jpg 23:18, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Great Job!

Those radar pattern pictures are great! Vol (Talk)

I've been trying to get them forever, but Dolphin (the emulator) was too heavy on my computer. And also, just wait a few minutes and I'm going to come up with an epic map for all areas! {EspyoT} 17:11, June 21, 2010 (UTC)

Moving articles

No harm no foul, but in the future if you'd like to move an article, please use the "Move" button at the top. That way the history of the article moves along with it, so reference is much easier. —Jimbo Jambo 19:34, 12 October 2010 (EDT)

Ah, yeah, no problem. It may be that there were some older edits the wiki didn't want to undo. In that case, I'd bring it up on the talk page so an admin can move it. —Jimbo Jambo 01:18, 13 October 2010 (EDT)

Edit port

[1] Missed something? What info? GP

I won't bother porting those edits 'cause it's all qualitative stuff.
Yeah, I understood the reason for that edit to easter eggs, but it just seems out of place on an article to address the editor. GP

Do you need a certain machine/system to hack a game? I'm just asking because I (for some reason) want to hack Pikmin 2 to change some palettes on some stuff.

Oh, no need. I've got it covered. Thanks though. {EspyoT} 14:05, 2 April 2011 (EDT)

Glitches

By the way, you mentioned a couple weeks ago on the glitches talk page that a couple of them had cases of "the you" after I edited them all to make them say you instead of the player. Can you tell me which glitches have "the you" so I ca fix them?Los Plagas (talk) 15:36, 5 January 2013 (EST)

Easy. Just press Ctrl+F and type in "the you". Good luck. — {EspyoT} 15:46, 5 January 2013 (EST)

Follow Up on Japanese Cave Names

I've been meaning to link you to this for a day or 2, I made a very hacky BMG extractor that hopefully works with every game. Here is a link to the script, it's python (it should work with either version) bmg2txt.py file.bmg (-v -e -c) - the v is for verbose, it doesn't do much right now but it does print some more debug stuff, -e is for extract, and -c is for printing the 1A system arguments/commands, and order of those 3 arguments doesn't matter.

Here is the english version, here is the english version with commands, here is the japanese version, and here is the japanese version with commands. Haven't gotten my hands on a PAL version tho, but it should work just as well since all I'm doing is seperating the entire DAT1 section into individual bytes, parsing them to either remove, or format the output of commands, and do some newline checks. It's quick and hacky but it works. I can attempt to see what differences there may be/translate it based on english since they're probably almost exactly the same, if you don't want to. Also, you're on your own to figure out what the commands are :P ~NWPlayer123 5:14PM 5/31/2014 (MST)

Wait, I'm confused now... Exactly what are the BMG files? I don't remember coming across any BMGs when I messed about the Pikmin 2 ISO... — {EspyoT} 06:45, 1 June 2014 (EDT)
BMG files are what Nintendo uses to archive and sort text, it's used in games like SMG1, MKW, this, and IDK what else. I found it in pikmin2 > message > mesRes_engUS.szs/whatever other language is there. There's also another one in that folder already extracted but I haven't looked at it yet. You can find a link here for more info on the other sections and such. If you really cared about the internal names from the messages I could try to set up a full extraction, but for now, that's all the visible text data in it. ~NWPlayer123 10:29AM 6/1/2014 (MST)
Ah, of course. Last time I checked the message folder was ages ago, and I could've sworn they were all one huge text file (pretty sure I opened the .bmg files with Notepad++). I was thinking of making a script to somehow sort the mess inside, but now I don't need to. I don't think the message IDs are really needed, as long as they're in the same order for each language. Thanks for this, I'll take a look at it soon! — {EspyoT} 12:37, 1 June 2014 (EDT)

Please Read, It's Important

Hey Espyo. I see you're a big editor on Pikipedia, and I'm pretty sure you're an admin here, if I'm correct. I used to be a former editor on this wiki, but I soon moved to the Pikmin Wikia. You've probably heard of us. Anyways, we can't help but notice that you seem to be the only active editor on this wiki. And that's not all. The things you've been doing for this wiki are things that we at the Pikmin Wikia are unable to get at the moment, such as Ripping textures for all Pikipedia Icons, or make HD maps of the areas in Pikmin. Now, I'm here, on behalf of all Admins on the Pikmin Wikia, and all the other big editors, such as myself, to ask you of something. I would like you to meet the Admins of our Wiki, so we could have a quick discussion, regarding the future of our two wikis. Our admins have requested to talk with you, since you seem to be the most active editor on this wiki. This isn't a direct message for you to come join our wiki, and you might not even want to join our wiki. However, if you feel comfortable, the admins request that they could at least get to meet you and talk things out. The conversation will most likely happen on Skype, so if you agree to sit down and talk to our Admins, I will inform you of all Skype details needed. If Skype can't work out, we will surely find an alternative. Thanks for reading this message (I know it's pretty long), because I know you're a busy guy. I hope to hear back from you soon.

-AeroBlaze777, On behalf of the Admins of Pikmin Wiki

I accept to discuss on Skype, although IRC could work even better. In fact, I've been wanting to talk this out for years now, and I'm glad that this is something the admins of wikia want as well. (One small thing: I'm not an admin just yet, though there has been private talk to move me to one; we just never got around to it.) — {EspyoT} 15:32, 17 July 2014 (EDT)
Great! If you have a Skype, can you inform me of your Skype Details?
Just search for "espyopt" and you should find it right away. — {EspyoT} 17:25, 17 July 2014 (EDT)
Ok, one of our admins has friended you. His name should be displayed as Zooty~Kun or something like that, and I think his username would be JPMRocks or something. If you get a request from anyone like that, do know that it is one of Pikmin Wiki's Admins. -AeroBlaze777
The username should be jpmrocks7, but the displayed name should be Zooty-Kun (Kawaii). -AeroBlaze777
That's right. Added. Also, I'm always online from around 11 AM GMT to 1 or 2 AM, so starting from an hour ago. — {EspyoT} 07:01, 18 July 2014 (EDT)

Missing stuff???

I've noticed a couple of things that didn't get merged at all, especially things regarding the Blonde Imposter from Pikmin 3. Like, that fruit's whole page didn't make it here. There's probably some more stuff that never made it here, too. AeroBlaze777sig.png Talk 19:18, 25 September 2014 (EDT)

At first I thought you meant stuff that I didn't merge when I manually combined two pages; I explain why here. But yeah, I see what you mean. In the case of Blonde Imposter, it's here – I (European) have checked with PikFan (American), and no version of the game calls it Imposter. An imposter is a tax, an impostor is a fraud. So I changed the article's name; we didn't have an article on the golden kiwi in Pikipedia. As for other pages, they're probably in other places, with different names. But if you see any other page that you really can't find, let me know, and if it really doesn't exist, GP can import it. It's weird though, because everything should've gotten transfered over... — {EspyoT} 04:35, 26 September 2014 (EDT)

Pikmin Fanon clean-up

I'm not sure how often you check the Fanon wiki, so I figured I'd drop by and let you know that we're planning a wiki clean-up that's actually going to be gone through with. We wanted your opinion on our current plan of action before we begin, though. Dry Paratroopa.pngDry Paratroopa

Hmm, I did talk to PikFan some. I don't really have time to check on what's up, but I'll talk to PikFan when I can. — {EspyoT} 04:33, 9 October 2014 (EDT)

Strategies

'Ey, Espyo. Pertaining to your comment saying that it's okay to use "you" in battle strategies, I'd like to clarify something that is important to Pikipedia as a whole in order to be as professional as possible. Your use of second person was not inappropriate, and you did a nice job catching it, but when we think of battle strategies for enemies, the sections can be broken up. There is generally an objective, informative part, that explains facts to keep in mind while fighting that apply to anyone, and a subjective part, which describes specific strategies that may work for some but not others. The objective part should use third person, as it is meant to be a formal statement(s), while the subjective should contain second person, as it makes it easier to follow for readers.

I plan to reorganize the battle strategy sections in the fashion I just describe, likely breaking them up into paragraphs accordingly, and I figured it would be best to let you know, as the most active participant on Pikipedia. Feel free to give your feedback on this. Thanks in advance.

-Scittery Leaves23

That's actually a funny coincidence! I was just talking to Greenpickle on the chatroom about how we need a consistent guideline for enemy articles. We're planning on having a section that details the creature's behavior, including its attacks (and stuff like shaking Pikmin off), in an informal, objective, and non-strategy-like fashion. Further down the article, the strategy section would refer to the player as you and contain only information useful for a player, on what to do to beat the video game enemy. I was thinking we need an information box for enemy strategy sections too, with a warning that this section is a guide, it's subjective, etc. I'll post the policy today in just a few minutes, so let me know what you think, too. I definitely understand your view, and like it, but hopefully this new article layout policy will solve all problems. — {EspyoT} 18:34, 23 November 2014 (EST)

Sounds great. Anything to help the strategy pieces; they're definitely of the most inconsistent parts on any article. I look forward to further information.

Pikmin 3 Images

Hey there Espyo,

I recently downloaded all the online-use quality promotional and character artwork for Pikmin 3 from the Nintendo UK Assets Library. But before I started uploading them en masse I thought I'd ask 1) if they're wanted or if they've already been uploaded, or 2) what categories, templates, etc you would like placed on them, or 3) if you'd rather I dropboxed them to you or another user so you can deal with them on your end. Thanks! Embyr 75 (talk) 17:10, 13 December 2014 (EST)

Hi! We have some artwork images, but we can always use more. I'm sure that if you start uploading, the wiki should warn you about duplicates. If it does, just skip the image in question. As for categories, Category:Pikmin 3 images and Category:Concept art would be ideal. Thanks a lot for this! — {EspyoT} 17:18, 13 December 2014 (EST)
Great, I'll get to work. If I go about doing everything all wrong, please stop me and let me know. :P
I've never played Pikmin before last week (*community gasp*), but I just bought Pikmin 3 and now I'm obsessed. So you may see me around from time to time. ;) Embyr 75 (talk) 17:30, 13 December 2014 (EST)
Will do. And any Pikmin game is a good one to start on, so you're in good hands. You're in for a ride, let me tell you! — {EspyoT} 17:33, 13 December 2014 (EST)

So I finished uploading the first wave of artwork; I didn't get any Duplicate Image warnings, but I think there may be some identical images with massive resolution differences, and so they weren't detected. Anyways, I'll upload the rest later if that's alright. I hope you can use them! Embyr 75 (talk) 18:32, 13 December 2014 (EST)

Excellent work! I forgot to tell you about adding a description and using the license picker on the upload form, but I didn't need to. Ever since you posted on your user page that you're from other NIWA wikis, I knew I had nothing to worry about, though. Feel free to upload the rest whenever you have time. And thanks once again! — {EspyoT} 18:44, 13 December 2014 (EST)

Hi again. So the Assets Library has somewhere in the ballpark of about 150 Pikmin 3 screenshots available for download on the website, but 1) I don't know what they're of, or what kind of quality you'd be getting, and 2) I know you have the ability to take whatever screens you want already. SO my question is: should I bother downloading them and dropboxing them to you? I honestly don't think I have the patience to upload 150 images one at a time but if you'd like them I could download and dropbox them to you, and then you can sort through the ones you want, if you're interested. Otherwise I'll stick to promo art. Embyr 75 (talk) 15:07, 16 December 2014 (EST)

Hey. Hmm, best case scenario, they're high quality images – something like 1080p. But that honestly doesn't matter a great deal. You could try uploading just one or two, just so we can't say we don't have anything about them, but honestly, they wouldn't be very useful on the wiki. Don't waste your time. Thanks! — {EspyoT} 15:10, 16 December 2014 (EST)
Okidoki! Let me know if you change your mind and would like them (or anything else on the asset library). Embyr 75 (talk) 15:12, 16 December 2014 (EST)
All right! Anything else that you find that should be interesting, let me know. — {EspyoT} 15:17, 16 December 2014 (EST)

Pikmin Wiki

Shouldn't that wiki be closed already? CyborgKing0 (talk) 06:21, 30 May 2015 (EDT)

It should, but it isn't because Wikia won't let us close it. They don't care if this splits the community and their efforts. They just want money. — {EspyoT} 07:46, 30 May 2015 (EDT)

Iridescent Flint Beetle

The photos are scrambled! The photos of the Pikmin 1 beetle are in the Pikmin 2 sections, and vice versa. Shouldn't there be a gallery? opulda57102.png 11:01, 12 June 2015 (EDT)

It doesn't matter much. The beetle looks the same in Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2. We should have a gallery, but we don't have enough images for one. — {EspyoT} 11:14, 12 June 2015 (EDT)

Thank you!

Thank you so much for all your help so far on the music articles Espyo! I'm not the greatest at formatting pages like this; the way you've redone it makes a lot more sense! Currently I'm working on recording the boss fight cues in Pikmin 2 so we can display the dissected music in the article and confirm what triggers what cue. Thank you again! Scruffy (talk) 17:05, 13 June 2015 (EDT)

No, thank YOU for your incredible work on the articles so far! I absolutely adore how they ended up, and they're not even complete yet! Feel free to improve my page designs even further, of course. And good luck with the rest! Let's both keep working to make these articles excellent. Oh, and as for the boss cues, they're already detailed on the Music page. Is there something extra that's missing? — {EspyoT} 17:12, 13 June 2015 (EDT)
Well, I read the part in the music article about the four different short themes that play for the bosses' short attacks, and that got me thinking that I could stream audio from the game, find and extract the shorter boss themes in Audacity, and then post them here. The main boss theme, the "preparing for long attack" theme, and the "boss defeated" theme are all on YouTube, but I can't seem to find a good recording of those short little stingers of music without sound effects heard over them. So I figure I could make my best effort to record them alone, and I'd make sure to be thorough about it. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Scruffy • (talk) • (contribs)
Ah right. That would be a good idea, yes. Good luck! — {EspyoT} 08:34, 14 June 2015 (EDT)
Okay, I've uploaded the files and I'll insert them in the article later today, hopefully. Also, I wanted to ask you about Pikmin 3's music page. There are YouTube links for a good amount of the tracks in Pikmin 3, but I found a website with a huge majority, including the small cutscene themes. The problem is, they are rips from the game, and since the sound effects cannot be turned off, you can hear sound effects in the cutscenes. I know this wiki wants only pure audio when it comes to music, so I was just wondering if I should add in the links at all when I get to Pikmin 3, or just stick to YouTube videos where there is less audio but it's clean, or a combination of the two. This is the link to the website. Scruffy (talk) 10:33, 15 June 2015 (EDT)
All right, good luck. I'd say that, at least for the time being, we can focus on just having any way of showing people what the song is, even if imperfect. So yeah, link to the clean track when possible, but when not, use a version with sound effects. — {EspyoT} 11:54, 15 June 2015 (EDT)
