The Crusted Rumpup (シリアゲヨロヒ?, lit.: "Butt-Lifting Armor") is a boss in Pikmin 4. It resembles a real world scorpion, though does not use its tails as an attack. Instead, the tail acts as its weak point. One can be found guarding the base at The Sand Keep in the Serene Shores and must be defeated to use it.

Behavior
The following article or section is in need of assistance from someone who plays Pikmin 4. |
The Crusted Rumpup will usually be found patrolling the areas in which it appears. When the leader, Oatchi or Pikmin enter its range, the creature will rise its tail, signaling that it's ready to attack. The Crusted Rumpup attacks by opening its jaws and charging at high speed towards the target on its direct line of sight, eating up to 5 Pikmin that it may catch when charging, and knocking back the leader, Oatchi, or any other Pikmin if they happen to be close while it charges.
Appearance
The Crusted Rumpup is similar in shape to a scorpion, with a head, 4 legs, and a long segmented tail. It has a red carapace with dark stripes. Its face is dark green with 2 yellow eyes and 4 darker green dots. It has a bulb at the end of its tail (instead of the stinger that scorpions have), and the underside of its tail has yellow fur.

Strategy
The following article or section contains guides. |
Purple Pikmin are recommended for defeating the Crusted Rumpup, due to them counting as 10 Pikmin when grabbing onto the creature's tail. Additionally, the Rush Boots are useful for this fight, as you can simply run around the creature to reach its tail, without the Crusted Rumpup being able to stop you. If you haven't unlocked the Rush Boots yet, don't worry, this fight is rather simple. Run in front of the Crusted Rumpup, baiting it into charging at you, sidestep this charge, running for the creature's tail. Throw your Pikmin at the tail, making sure to keep in range to throw Pikmin at the creature's tail if it starts turning around. When 15 Pikmin (or 2 Purple Pikmin) are holding onto the tail, the Crusted Rumpup will be stunned and expose its weak point, the tip of its tail, which will allow you to attack it. When it stops being stunned, it'll shake off your Pikmin, so whistle them back and repeat the strategy.
Notes
Dalmo's notes
Olimar's notes
“Its body is covered in a hard carapace, and it has an extremely ferocious personality. It spreads its sharp- fanged jaws to catch its prey.
The Crusted Rumpup suffers from poor vision, but it uses the fine hairs on the lower part of its tail and the ball-shaped sensory organ at its tip to detect faint quasi-electrostatic fields emitted by other organisms. In short, it has other ways to sense its predators and prey.”Louie's notes
