The Crusted Rumpup (シリアゲヨロヒ?, lit.: "Butt-Lifting Armor") is a boss in Pikmin 4. It resembles a real world scorpion, though does not use its tails as an attack. Instead, the tail acts as its weak point. One can be found guarding the base at The Sand Keep in Serene Shores and must be defeated to access it.

Behavior

The following article or section is in need of assistance from someone who plays Pikmin 4.
Particularly: Describe its behavior when it sees Pikmin, when it attacks, when it shakes, when it loses interest, etc.

The Crusted Rumpup will usually be found patrolling the areas in which it appears. When the leader, Oatchi or Pikmin enter its range, the creature will rise its tail, signaling that it's ready to attack. The Crusted Rumpup attacks by opening its jaws and charging at high speed towards the target on its direct line of sight, eating up to 5 Pikmin that it may catch when charging, and knocking back the leader, Oatchi, or any other Pikmin if they happen to be close while it charges.

Strategy

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

Purple Pikmin are recommended for defeating the Crusted Rumpup, due to them counting as 10 Pikmin when grabbing onto the creature's tail. Additionally, the Rush Boots are useful for this fight, as you can simply run around the creature to reach its tail, without the Crusted Rumpup being able to stop you. If you haven't unlocked the Rush Boots yet, don't worry, this fight is rather simple. Run in front of the Crusted Rumpup, baiting it into charging at you, sidestep this charge, running for the creature's tail. Throw your Pikmin at the tail, making sure to keep in range to throw Pikmin at the creature's tail if it starts turning around. When 15 Pikmin (or 2 Purple Pikmin) are holding onto the tail, the Crusted Rumpup will be stunned and expose its weak point, the tip of its tail, which will allow you to attack it. When it stops being stunned, it'll shake off your Pikmin, so whistle them back and repeat the strategy.

Notes

Dalmo's Notes

With a red carapace curved like a jaunty sun hat and a tail sporting vivid yellow tufts, this critter is a natural illustration of good fashion. But its face and personality exhibit only true ferocity! It will open its mouth wide and charge you with alarming speed. The juxtaposition of artistic exterior coupled with an aggressive attitude is intriguing!

Olimar's Notes

Its body is covered in a hard carapace, and it has an extremely ferocious personality. It spreads its sharp-fanged jaws to catch its prey.

The Crusted Rumpup suffers from poor vision, but it uses the fine hairs on the lower part of its tails and the ball-shaped sensory organ at its top to stack faint quasi-electrostatic fields emitted by other organisms. In short, it has other ways to sense its predators and prey.

Louie's Notes

The tip of the tail tastes almost fruit, with notes of sweet and sour. Pairs well with soft-ripened cheeses.

The following article or section needs help from someone who can translate Japanese text.
Some notes: Japanese name translation is not certain

  • Common name: Crusted Rumpup. Rumpup contains rump, another word for butt. It may additionally contain a fusion of up, referring to how it raises its tail and pup.
  • Japanese nickname: シリアゲヨロヒ?, lit.: "Butt-Lifting Armor". It refers to how it lifts its rear and how armor protects the rest of the body.
  • Japanese name: ケブカシアゲヨロヒガタ?, lit.: "Hairy-Butt-Lifting Armor Type". It is its Japanese common name with the added specification of how its rear end is hairy.
  • Scientific name: Derrierus capillium. Derrierus stems from derriére, a term used to refer to a person's buttocks, and capillum is Latin for 'hair', due to the Rumpup's hairy tail.
  • Internal names: SAKADACHI. It directly translates into "handstand" or "headstand".
  • Prerelease: None.
