The Waddlequaff (スイトリー^?, lit.: "Sucking-Up Bird") is a bird-like enemy first found in the Blossoming Arcadia in Pikmin 4. It has a cream feathered body with two wings of the same color, and a long pink beak which is always open. Waddlequaffs use their beak to suck in objects and prey and must be defeated to retrieve that which has been swallowed.

Behavior

When the Waddlequaff spots a Pikmin, it will begin to inhale in an attempt to swallow and eat it. It can also swallow pellets, treasures, and items such as Scrummy Bones, explosives, and Pikpik Carrots, but only actively targets pellets and treasures, and ignores items unless thrown directly into its attack range while inhaling. When it shakes off attacking Pikmin, swallowed pellets or treasures will be spat out, one at a time. Upon death, any remaining pellets or treasures it has eaten will be spat out all at once. With each item a Waddlequaff consumes, it begins to noticeably grow larger, up to three sizes bigger. But the bigger it gets the slower it becomes, making attacking it easier.

Strategy

It is recommended to have a hefty squad of Pikmin before taking this enemy down. You can either throw Pikmin onto its back or Rush it with Oatchi. Alternatively, you can feed it a bomb rock to instantly kill it.

“It possesses a bottomless stomach and will swallow down anything and everything unfortunate enough to end up in its path. It will even consume things larger than its own body without missing a step. The best part is its goofy little head that looks just like a fuzz-covered gourd!”

“Its overdeveloped respiratory muscles allow it to suck in large volumes of air through its long, thick beak while feeding. Its feathers are too small to use for flying. The current theory is that this is due to its niche position in the ecosystem being quite secure thanks to a lack of natural predators and little competition for food in its habitat. However, with the expansion of Pikmin territory, recently its numbers have been gradually declining.”
