Instructions

  • Preparations before the day:
    1. Write down the final article's text somewhere.
      • Make sure it is not categorized. If you want, use nocat=y on the templates, or replace them with raw calls to {{box}}.
    2. Write down the front page's text somewhere.
    3. Write down the tweet text somewhere.
    4. Write down the text for the joke explanation section in Pikipedia:April Fool's Day somewhere.
  • When April Fool's Day begins:
    1. Upload all relevant articles, images, and wiki changes.
      • Files should be labeled with the type "Wiki image".
    2. Update the front page so that it somehow shows the joke. Featured article, News, etc.
      • Note: Because April Fool's lands on one of the days the wiki's front page gets updated, do not update the front page like normal. Save the first of April for just the joke, and do the standard updates on the second of April.
    3. Tweet something related to the joke to lure people in, and post it on Facebook.
  • To finish the joke:
    1. Revert the affected pages.
    2. Move all created articles to subpages under Pikipedia:April Fool's Day, with redirects.
    3. Create sections on Pikipedia:April Fool's Day explaining this year's jokes.
    4. For each made-up article:
      1. Add a {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} tag to the top that sets the page title, as to remove the "Pikipedia:April Fool's Day/" part.
      2. Add an {{afd}} template above everything in the page.
      3. If there is a possibility that users can stumble into this page while searching for something similar, place a disambiguation template.
      4. Check what links to the old page name, and make all links point directly to the new page's location. This includes other April Fool's Day articles as well.
    5. Update Template:News to mention the fact that we made a joke, and link to Pikipedia:April Fool's Day's respective section.
    6. Tweet about how the joke is over, and link to its section in Pikipedia:April Fool's Day, for all those that missed it.

Untitled comment

Pikipedia seems to be very proud of their joke. KDDD sig.png

Yes, it was accepted pretty well, from the people I asked. The images and the text turned out quite well. — {EspyoT} 12:52, 8 April 2015 (EDT)

New idea

Create a page for Pikmin 4, and a warning on the main page for something like "Pikmin 4 has been confirmed! Click here for all the info we know.", and it leads to a page with just "We know nothing so far." We got this idea while talking on Skype. — {EspyoT} 14:19, 16 August 2015 (EDT)

More Bolbertness

The Red Bulborb isn't the only enemy that can pull off stupid faces. Ever tried pausing while an enemy like a Puffy Blowhog is shaking away Pikmin? We can probably make up some type of virus and claim that one out of every thousands of enemies (like Shinies in Pokémon) are a derpy variant. Then we include a gallery of different enemies doing different derpy things. I think this time it would make more sense to consider them as actually goofy, and not "majestic" like we did with the Bolbert. — {EspyoT} 07:32, 24 November 2015 (EST)

Weird skin

Maybe we could screw up the background so that it's all weird and strange, and then we mess around with the sidebar a bit, so its links send people to the wrong page, which would really throw people off... That might be a little too destructive and confusing for users, so I'm not sure if it's the best idea, but it'd definitely be something. ~PikFan23 16:00, 7 December 2015 (EST)

I dunno, what about this

You could do something with Pikmin four, someone could make art and put it as the backround, then Nintendo screws us over with real Pikmin 4... Pikifan4 (talk) 12:33, 28 January 2016 (EST)

I already suggested a Pikmin 4 article earlier. But we could try to make a really crappy fake pass off as real. — {EspyoT} 10:31, 19 January 2016 (EST)
Well, that sounds reasonable but we could get some art, someone could request Scruffy makes some art for it. I do like the Derpy enemy idea though. We could also do something Using G-mod, we could make a FPS in Pikmin.... Pikifan4 (talk) 12:33, 28 January 2016 (EST)
Also we should do some model viewer for all the enemies to show their models animations. Pikifan4 (talk) 12:33, 28 January 2016 (EST)
I dunno, was there a specific person/persons that put up the Bolbort joke? Pikifan4 (talk) 14:16, 28 January 2016 (EST)
You can check a page's history from the buttons at the top of each page. I added the article, but I didn't make the joke. — {EspyoT} 16:03, 28 January 2016 (EST)
Oh nononono, if we made a Pikmin 4 page we would get a really big backlash from the community. --Nvortex (talk) 14:09, 27 February 2016 (EST)

Fitness White Pikmin

1FtoUn2.png i was once listening to a pikmin song on youtube and got this hillarious accidental image thanks to an ad. Althrough i am not exactly sure how a page about this would be written. Klemen702 (talk) 14:06, 11 February 2016 (EST)

Any ideas?

Has anyone got any new ideas for the new April fools' joke? so far we only have the Fitness white Pikmin and fake Pikmin 4, we could make something like a Fitness Pikmin family. If you have any ideas be sure to post them here. --Nvortex (talk) 14:07, 27 February 2016 (EST)

Pikmin Fates

Fire Emblem Fates has been causing some controversy lately. How about we have some fun with it and pretend that Nintendo unveiled the next Pikmin game, called Pikmin Fates? We pretend that Nintendo did not unveil much, except for the general storyline and look, but most importantly, also all of the subjects that raised controversy for Fire Emblem Fates. So we'd have an article saying how it has a release date for whatever, say that the game has this and that for story, and say that in the Japanese version, you can pet Pikmin and leaders, but this gets removed for the American release. We can mock other things of the sort that are controversial in Fire Emblem Fates. — {EspyoT} 14:20, 27 February 2016 (EST)

We can't forget to add the censorship issues--Nvortex (talk) 14:27, 27 February 2016 (EST)
While I don't personally like this idea, I agree Fire Emblem is big and this would be interesting. Pikifan4 (talk) 16:35, 12 March 2016 (EST)

Next April Fools day

Okay we can change the logo on Midnight on April first and make it a Bulborb, then 24 hours later, revert it. TabuuandPeach MarchShroomCertificateA.jpg 10:03, 31 July 2016 (EDT)

Stupid writing

Here's an idea: Rewriting the main page like a Garfielf script. Thing is, we have to keep it family-friendly, so this idea might fall short. Plus, it needs to be done really well. There's a difference between being "lulz so randooom XDDD" and being actually goofy and funny. — {EspyoT} 15:08, 31 March 2017 (EDT)

The wiki, but written by a character

Tying a bit with my previous suggestion, and also inspired by Smash Wiki's "Rikipedia", we could have a version of the main page as if it were written by one of the series's characters, filled with their personality and biases. — {EspyoT} 17:14, 31 March 2017 (EDT)

Shipedia

Yo. "Shipedia". The front page, but written by the ship. Not only do you get snarky and salesperson text, but stuff like the featured article and such could be renamed through the eyes of the Hocotatians. Like, instead of "News", have "Information Conveyor" or something. — {EspyoT} 15:02, 3 April 2017 (EDT)

Love it. -- XXOs

Spoon Boss

Do I need to explain this? We need to discuss ideas for what the article should have, though. — {EspyoT} 19:57, 24 June 2017 (EDT)

Fourth wall

An article about the fourth wall to be broken in every area. Omega Zero came up with this one, really. — {EspyoT} 16:33, 25 August 2017 (EDT)

Grubgod

A wonderful typo that could lead to a fun cult-like religion based on everyone's favourite Pikmin family — {L3re7zT} 23:08, 21 Decembre 2017 (MEZ)

Half a Pikmin throw

A parody on the half an A press. --Nvortex (talk) 10:11, 22 December 2017 (EST)

Captain Olimer

This one is supported by the actual oversight on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate website. A page similar to the Captain Olimar page, but every name is one letter off and every description is a little wonky. Also put heavy stress on the fact that his helmet cracks. Scruffy (talk) 10:23, 13 June 2018 (EDT)

Super Pikmin Odyssey

It might be a Little late for this year, but what if we go for a Super Mario Odyssey parody? Like, Alph would try to stop Charlie, who captured Brittany, but would fall into the Impact Site, and befriend a special Pikmin who could capture Bulborbs and stuff. As for Olimar and Louie, they could run the Crazy Cap or something, and The President could replace Captain Toad, and Power Moons would be Sparklium. Also, the Broodals could be each of the Titan Dweevil’s weapons, with the Dweevil himself could assume the role of Madame Brood. This is either incredibly stupid or one of my rare good ideas... What do y’all think? V64 (talk) 14:50, March 15, 2019 (EDT)

Personally, I think it's a great idea, I smiled while reading it ! Let's just see what the others think about that. I'm Hugik, big fan of Pikmin. Want to talk ? 15:54, March 15, 2019 (EDT)

This seems like an interesting idea, although there have already been two "fake Pikmin game articles, so maybe we should do something different. And I just came up with an idea:horror, in the article "Five nights at PNF-404". it would probably be fun to present the Pikmin series like horror, and imagine what it would be like if Nintendo really steered the franchise in the horror direction. There are already some things that can be found scary in the series: like the creepy Water Wraith from Pikmin 2. After all, it's imilar to a survival game, so I think adding horror would be cool-and funny! Note: I'm not sure what the name should be, but FNAF is one of the most popular recent horror franchises, so it could be based off of it. User:CrazyCow (talk) 16:15, March 15, 2019 (EDT)

Hey, that’s pretty good with the FNAF idea. However, since FNAF isn’t a Nintendo game, so I don’t know how well it would go over. I’ll bet one of the admins could figure this out though.

V64 (talk) 16:40, March 15, 2019 (EDT)

When the joke is about a Pikmin version of something else, there's usually a specific reason as to why that game or movie was picked. With Color Splash, it was because the game's mechanics were very controversial to the fans, and if something like that happened to the Pikmin series, it'd be just as controversial. With Pik-Min, it was to tie in with the other wikis's Marvel Cinematic Universe jokes, and because out of all Marvel franchises, Ant-Man is easily the most Pikmin-like. With Hotel Pikmin, the intro to Hotel Mario was picked because it's an iconic meme.
Simply making a Pikmin game out of Odyssey directly wouldn't be interesting or funny to the reader, since there is no reason for having picked that game, and there are no clear connections. As for FNAF not being a Nintendo franchise, that's not a problem. We've made a joke with a Marvel movie, which isn't even related to video games, so using FNAF is fine. Plus, these jokes aren't real products, of course, and they're just parodies and goofs, making it next to impossible for companies to claim copyright infringement. They probably don't want to bother either, since they're minor jokes, and it would be bad PR to attack jokes like that.
That said, there's more of a reason to use FNAF (like you said, because of all the scary stuff), but there are still very few connections. Maybe it could work, but it'd need serious discussion and consideration, in my opinion. — {EspyoT} 19:07, March 15, 2019 (EDT)
