This is a list of ongoing projects at Pikipedia that we could do with some help on. ==Summary==
Since the tasks vary in importance, duration, expected Pikmin knowledge, and required MediaWiki skills, this page will start with a nifty table listing all tasks and these attributes, as well as how close to completion they are. You can sort the table using the header row buttons, to make it easier to find a task that suits you. Of course, these values are subjective, and they're just recommendations – feel free to try any of the projects listed anyway. Read Pikipedia:Helping out if you feel you need to be better prepared. As you contribute to these projects, feel free to update this page.
To attempt projects requiring 'some' Pikmin knowledge, you should have played through most, if not all, of the game; for those needing 'a lot', you should be familiar with the details of the related area of the game. Technical difficulty means MediaWiki knowledge - 'medium' projects involve using general formatting code, while 'hard' projects utilise more advanced devices such as templates.

Of course, these are just guidelines - feel free to try any of the projects listed anyway.  If you read through Help:Editing and you can follow instructions, you should be able to cope with any technical difficulty level.

Max deaths
<s>A new attribute has been added to the enemies' infoboxes: max deaths. This is the maximum number of Pikmin that can die in a single attack. However, almost all enemy pages lack info on this subject. We must observe every attack of every enemy, on both games, and write how many Pikmin can die in a single blow, if any.</s> As discussed here, some values should be gathered first, and then their place will be later decided. As of now, Espyo will host a list.
Document Pikmin Bloom information
pb, the newest game in the Pikmin series, has lots of unique features compared to the other games, and some of these are surprisingly complicated. Thoroughly documenting these features, and any changes to them in updates, is an important task.

Add the basics to Hey! Pikmin treasure articles
A little less than half of the treasure articles have a basic paragraph, and barely any have the other sections. The amiibo treasures are especially lacking information.

Add the basics to Hey! Pikmin enemy articles
A few enemy articles are still only skeletons! At the very least, they should have the subject's basic information. Other than those few, some articles are also lacking in-depth descriptions on the enemy's locations, even if they have them listed in the infobox. The biggest problem is probably the stats section. The only way to fill them in is by finding out each enemy's parameters, which is a lot of work.

Document Pikmin 3 Deluxe Side Stories content
The Side Stories feature interesting variations on Story Mode areas, but documentation on the layout and features of the missions is lacking, as are guides to complete them and names in other languages.

Upload important Hey! Pikmin images
Hey! Pikmin has been out for a while, but the wiki is still majorly lacking in certain images. The following images are needed:
* Enemies
** Different poses and actions.
* Non-amiibo treasures
** In the place where it's found
** Logs screen
** If useful, logs screen screenshot, but facing different angles.
* Areas
* Obstacles
* Main menu

Update Pikmin 3 enemy healths
In Pikmin 3 Deluxe, the health of many enemies has been changed. The game files should be consulted in order to get the right values. To make matters more complicated, each difficulty adjusts the health further, and that too needs to be documented. Care must also be taken to make sure the correct files are being read, since Pikmin 3 Deluxe files are known to be a bit weird and misleading sometimes. When documenting the new values, that information should be added onto new rows in the enemy stats template present in each enemy's article.

Upload Pikmin 3 Deluxe images
p3d features many area differences compared to the original Pikmin 3, and these need screenshots to document them. Missions in the Side Stories also need more images. It's easy to take screenshots on the Nintendo Switch, so this task isn't difficult to do.

Document the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate content
ssbu features some Pikmin content. Most of it is not documented on the wiki. In the game's article, the list of spirits, songs, etc. should be completed, and in the articles of each Spirit, item, Assist Trophy, etc.'s subject, there should be a small section explaining how it works in the game.

Clean treasure articles according to the guidelines
Most treasure articles (both from Pikmin 2 and Hey! Pikmin) still lack proper information as to the location and collection of the treasure. Since treasures are so important to both games, these articles should be improved soon.

Clean enemy articles according to the guidelines
As of 25, Pikipedia has an enemy article guidelines and a guide policy. Most of the enemy articles do not follow the new guidelines. As for guides, guide sections and articles should have the Guide template at the start, as a result. This includes, but is not limited to: enemy strategies, cave walkthroughs, Challenge Mode and Mission Mode guides, ship part, treasure and fruit walkthroughs and challenge runs. In addition, as of 11, the enemy articles do not follow the most up-to-date guidelines about the "Naming" section, and the usage of naming.

Clean area articles according to the guidelines
As of 18, Pikipedia has area article guidelines. Most of the area articles do not yet adhere to the guidelines.

Document menus
While menu documentation exists for all major menus in the Pikmin series, many of them could be expanded, improved, and/or cleaned up. Many minor menus also need documentation.

Mission Mode cleanup
Most Mission Mode pages should have the basic lists of enemies and obstacles by now. Each level should have a in-text guide, split up into multiple paragraphs, on the most efficient way to get a Platinum medal in the level. We have plans to make video guides on the Wiki's YouTube channel, but until/if we get to doing that, we should add these guides ASAP. If someone has a strategy and you think you have a better one, please discuss on the talk page as to which we will put on the stage. There should be guides for both Collect Treasure! and Battle Enemies!; guides for the bosses are already present on their respective pages.

2-Player Battle stage cleanup
Most 2-Player Battle stage articles are short. The pages need data (object list, starting spray amount, buried yellow marble amount), descriptions (possible layouts, marble and Onion locations, where cherries tend to land), and stage-specific strategies. Ideally, they'd have one section per layout (including the layout selection direction, and the technical information template in each). As for the object amounts, it may not be enough to simply use the game files, since those for some reason don't mention all the objects.

Bingo Battle stage cleanup
The Bingo Battle stage articles are a bit lackluster and disorganized. Here's a checklist of what to do to each stage article to improve this situation:
* Describe the stage very generally in the opening paragraph.
* Create an "Overview" section describing the stage's layout, mentioning possible paths to reach the other side of the arena, crannies, open spaces, structures of interest, etc. See also: Pikipedia:Area article guidelines#Overview.
* In each layout section's opening paragraph, describe in general the key differences between this layout and the others. Just the types of Pikmin is not enough.
* For each variation's image:
** Use high resolution images.
** Snap it with Victory Macaroon on (so its initial location is visible), and with 1v1 and 5 Pikmin on each side (so excess Pikmin or leaders don't clog up the image).
** Since the game sometimes rotates the stages around, make sure the stage in the image is always oriented in the same way as the GamePad radar preview (the one used in the stage selection stage), for the sake of consistency.
* Make sure the term used to refer to a different object placement is "variation", not "layout".
* Standardize the look of all pages in general.

Monologs, Voyage Log entries and ship's dialogs
Document the Play Nintendo website
Olimar's monologs, Olimar's Voyage Log and Ship's dialogs should be placed on pages they refer to, if any, using notes. To do this, move the text to "Notes:Article name/monolog" (or "/voyage" or "/ship") and include metadata as documented.  Then add or change the notes template on the article (see the template's documentation), and transclude the new subpage on the notes listing page it comes from using the alternative form of the notes template (again, see its documentation).  Some articles already have these notes, but they are hardcoded into the article, and should instead use Template:Notes.
The Play Nintendo website has various Pikmin content, including character descriptions, quizzes, minigames, and craft projects. An article should be created to document all this content, similar to but smaller than the Super Mario Wiki article on this topic.

Game names
Add GamePad stylus mode buttons
Some instances of the names Pikmin and Pikmin 2 are formatted and named incorrectly. In other words, there are still some articles out there that call the first game "Pikmin 1". There are two things that need to be done. Every time the first game is referred, it shouldn't contain the number 1. And every time either game is mentioned, its name should be italicized. These changes should not break the policies, though.
When playing in Stylus mode in Pikmin 3, certain buttons appear on the GamePad screen for the use of the charge function, sprays, and other such things. If we could get the buttons themselves on the wiki, we can use it for data file pages and other places necessary. These buttons are translucent, and we should get images with a black background.

Additionally, when referring to the series, Pikmin must still be italicized.
Write better image descriptions
Some image pages contain a good description of what the picture shows. Others, however, either only have a bland line of text, or are missing a description altogether. If you see such an image, please add a description. These do not have to be long or detailed, but concise and accurate; just a sentence about what the image is of, probably with a link to its subject if there's an article on it.

Walkthroughs
Document the max Pikmin deaths
Some articles about enemies, caves and Challenge Mode levels don't have a strategy/walkthrough section. The articles that do have one aren't coherent. Some of them have the strategies in a section on the bottom, others have the strategy hidden within the regular description text; some call the reader "you" and provide walkthroughs, others use the term "the player" and explain strategies in a more general way... A consistent style for these must be discussed sometime in the future.
As discussed here, some values for the maximum number of Pikmin that can get affected by a single attack should be gathered first, and then their place in an article will be later decided. As of now, Espyo will host a list.

Treasures
Confirm Hey! Pikmin cutscene Pikmin requirements
Most treasure articles still lack proper information as to the location and collection of the treasure. A list of treasure articles can be found at Treasure Hoard or Template:Treasures.
There may be more Hey! Pikmin cutscenes that have a minimum Pikmin requirement than the ones documented on the wiki. Somebody should go through all the cutscenes (which will likely require a fresh save file) using the fewest amount of Pikmin possible, and then check what the Pikmin requirements are for each one. Alternatively, this information may be easily accessible by checking the game files.

2-player battle locations
Transcribe text in treasures
Most are short.  The pages need data (enemy list, hazard list, Pellet Posy list), descriptions (possible layouts, marble and onion locations, where cherries tend to land) and level-specific strategies.  Find a list here.
Some treasures have text written on them, much like the real world objects they represent. Using either the game textures or the real world counterparts, we should transcribe the text written on the object and point it down on the wiki. Some treasure articles don't have these transcriptions yet.

Ship's dialogs
Add guidebook enemy notes
In Pikmin 2, the Ship will usually give out dialog as a form of advice to the player. However only very little dialog has been transferred, and thus more dialog needs to be added to the page. Here is a list of what needs to be added:
Add the notes on enemies from the Pikmin Player's Guide, the New Play Control! Prima Guide, Pikmin 2 Player's Guide, Pikmin Nintendo Power Promotional Booklet, and the Pikmin 3 Prima Guide. For guides that aren't online, attempt to transcribe the notes from the book to the page with no errors.

*Pikmin (sighting, obtaining, abilities discovered)
Standardize family articles
*Sprays (collecting berries, making spray out of, collecting drop, using)
All family articles should follow the same style. They should all fit the set guidelines.
*Nectar, nectar weed, rubble
*Candypop Buds
*Hazards (fire, water, poison, electricity)
*<s>Bulbmin</s>
*<s>Cave (one per cave)</s>
*<s>Day 1</s>
*<s>Day 2</s>
*<s>Day 3</s>
*End of day
*Exploration Kit
*<s>Challenge Mode unlocked</s>
*<s>Titan Dweevil</s>
*<s>Debt repayment</s>
*Pikmin extinction

If this list is missing something or need to talk about something about the project in general, suggest it here.
Revive the random content box
One of the Main Page's features for a few years was the "random content" box. It randomly displayed either a featured image, or some random excerpts from the games. However, that box has not been updated in years, and it was showing the same things over and over. A lot more content should be picked for it.

Image descriptions
It's recommended to browse around the wiki, find good images and quotes, and start gathering a list of candidates in the template's talk page. If you could also contribute with ideas on how to improve the random content feature, those would be great too.
Images require, for the most part, vastly improved descriptions. These do not have to be long or detailed, but concise and accurate, just a sentence about what the image is of, probably with a link to its subject if there's an article on it.

Pikmin "colors"
Find Piklopedia note differences
In order to refer to Red, Yellow, Blue, Purple and White as an individual type, the wiki often uses the term "color" (i.e. "Pikmin color"). However, this isn't a very accurate word, given that Bulbmin aren't a color. This can be said tenfold with the addition of Rock Pikmin in the third game. As such, all instances of "color" (or "colour"), when referring to a Pikmin type, should be replaced with "type" (or any other synonym).
Pikmin 3 Deluxe Piklopedia contains comments by Olimar and Louie that are the same as their Pikmin 2 Piklopedia counterparts. Except not all of them do. It would be nice to get a list of which ones are different and document it somewhere.

Cave sublevel statistics
Quote cleanup
Every sublevel in Pikmin 2 has a mostly predetermined number of enemies, hazards, eggs, etc. However, the cave guides do not contain these statistics, and therefore need to have the statistics added to them. To see how the statistics should be formatted, please refer to the Frontier Cavern guide.
In an effort to standardize transcript text across the wiki, transcript text should be on the "Notes" namespace, and should be included inside pages with transcript. Some articles already have these notes, but they are hardcoded into the article, and should instead use notes.

:Here is the data I have ATM. It's in plain text and wiki format, with both 2nd- and 3rd-level headings. Some numbers may be wrong as we discussed in the IRC - you might want to cross-reference with my guide (which may also be wrong...) if any are doubtful. If it would be more helpful with a slight change in format, I can do that fairly easily. <span style="font-family:times;color:#080">G<span style="color:#050">P</span></span>
Convert large files
Some files on the wiki are pretty massive. Heavy PNGs should be replaced by lighter JPGs or go through PNGCrush, high-quality JPGs should have their quality toned down, and images with needlessly high dimensions should be shrunk. But of course, common sense needs to be used for this. If the image is meant to have clear detail, it might be best for it to stay the way it is. Read this as your starting point and use your judgment! A list of the largest files can be found here.

Enemy pronouns
Write Pikmin 2 enemy IDs
When using a pronoun to refer to a specific enemy, the pronoun "it" (or similar it-related pronouns) should be used. However, some enemies are referred to as "he". As such, all mentions of a gender-specific pronoun for an enemy need to be changed to it. (Note: The Emperor Bulblax, Empress Bulblax, Male and Female Sheargrub do not need to be associated with "it"; they can also be referred to as "he" or "she", since we know what their genders are.)
Every enemy and obstacle in Pikmin 2 has an internal "teki" ID number. This number should go in the technical information section of each enemy's article.

Piklopedia/Treasure Hoard icons
Remove the ability for infoboxes to add game icons
The Piklopedia and Treasure Hoard pages should have the icons found in the respective menus in the game. The Treasure Hoard page has some images, but they're not the icons featured on the menus. These textures can be easily ripped with Dolphin, but due to current problems on the contributors that normally rip textures, this project will be pointed down here so it can be attended to in a future date.
The game icons in the top right of articles are generally added by Template:Game icons, but some infobox templates add game icons automatically. While this may reduce the number of templates used on some pages, it complicates the game icon system and can make it hard to understand. Ideally, Template:Game icons should be the only template allowed to add game icons, and other templates should have this functionality removed. This would require adding Template:Game icons to hundreds of articles to replace the icons currently added by infoboxes, a task that should ideally be performed by a bot.

Pikmin 2 Challenge Mode cleanup
The Pikmin 2 Challenge Mode level articles are a mess and don't follow a consistent style.

Latest revision as of 15:41, April 29, 2024

This article is about large projects on the wiki. For other tasks, see Pikipedia:Helping out.

This is a list of ongoing projects at Pikipedia that we could do with some help on. To request that other projects be undertaken, please leave a comment on the talk page. When a project has been completed, its section can be removed from this page.

Document Pikmin Bloom information

Pikmin Bloom, the newest game in the Pikmin series, has lots of unique features compared to the other games, and some of these are surprisingly complicated.

  • Enemies
    • Different poses and actions.
  • Non-amiibo treasures
    • In the place where it's found
    • Logs screen
    • If useful, logs screen screenshot, but facing different angles.
  • Areas
  • Obstacles
  • Main menu

Update Pikmin 3 enemy healths

In Pikmin 3 Deluxe, the health of many enemies has been changed. The game files should be consulted in order to get the right values. To make matters more complicated, each difficulty adjusts the health further, and that too needs to be documented. Care must also be taken to make sure the correct files are being read, since Pikmin 3 Deluxe's files are known to be a bit weird and misleading sometimes. When documenting the new values, that information should be added onto new rows in the enemy stats template present in each enemy's article.

Upload Pikmin 3 Deluxe images

Pikmin 3 Deluxe features many area differences compared to the original Pikmin 3, and these need screenshots to document them. Missions in the Side Stories also need more images. It's easy to take screenshots on the Nintendo Switch, so this task isn't difficult to do.

Document the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate content

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate features some Pikmin content.

As of November 25th, 2014, Pikipedia has an enemy article guidelines and a guide policy. In addition, as of May 11th, 2020, the enemy articles do not follow the most up-to-date guidelines about the "Naming" section, and the usage of naming.

Clean area articles according to the guidelines

As of December 18th, 2014, Pikipedia has area article guidelines.

  • Describe the stage very generally in the opening paragraph.
  • Create an "Overview" section describing the stage's layout, mentioning possible paths to reach the other side of the arena, crannies, open spaces, structures of interest, etc. See also: Pikipedia:Area article guidelines#Overview.
  • In each layout section's opening paragraph, describe in general the key differences between this layout and the others. Just the types of Pikmin is not enough.
  • For each variation's image:
    • Use high resolution images.
    • Snap it with Victory Macaroon on (so its initial location is visible), and with 1v1 and 5 Pikmin on each side (so excess Pikmin or leaders don't clog up the image).
    • Since the game sometimes rotates the stages around, make sure the stage in the image is always oriented in the same way as the GamePad radar preview (the one used in the stage selection stage), for the sake of consistency.
  • Make sure the term used to refer to a different object placement is "variation", not "layout".
  • Standardize the look of all pages in general.

Document the Play Nintendo website

The Play Nintendo website has various Pikmin content, including character descriptions, quizzes, minigames, and craft projects. An article should be created to document all this content, similar to but smaller than the Super Mario Wiki article on this topic.

Add GamePad stylus mode buttons

When playing in Stylus mode in Pikmin 3, certain buttons appear on the GamePad screen for the use of the charge function, sprays, and other such things. If we could get the buttons themselves on the wiki, we can use it for data file pages and other places necessary. These buttons are translucent, and we should get images with a black background.

Document the max Pikmin deaths

As discussed here, some values for the maximum number of Pikmin that can get affected by a single attack should be gathered first, and then their place in an article will be later decided. As of now, Espyo will host a list.

Confirm Hey! Pikmin cutscene Pikmin requirements

Transcribe text in treasures

Some treasures have text written on them, much like the real world objects they represent. Using either the game textures or the real world counterparts, we should transcribe the text written on the object and point it down on the wiki. Some treasure articles don't have these transcriptions yet.

Add guidebook enemy notes

Add the notes on enemies from the Pikmin Player's Guide, the New Play Control! Prima Guide, Pikmin 2 Player's Guide, Pikmin Nintendo Power Promotional Booklet, and the Pikmin 3 Prima Guide. For guides that aren't online, attempt to transcribe the notes from the book to the page with no errors.

Standardize family articles

All family articles should follow the same style. They should all fit the set guidelines.

Revive the random content box

One of the Main Page's features for a few years was the "random content" box. It randomly displayed either a featured image, or some random excerpts from the games. However, that box has not been updated in years, and it was showing the same things over and over. A lot more content should be picked for it.

It's recommended to browse around the wiki, find good images and quotes, and start gathering a list of candidates in the template's talk page. If you could also contribute with ideas on how to improve the random content feature, those would be great too.

Find Piklopedia note differences

Pikmin 3 Deluxe's Piklopedia contains comments by Olimar and Louie that are the same as their Pikmin 2 Piklopedia counterparts. Except not all of them do. It would be nice to get a list of which ones are different and document it somewhere.

Quote cleanup

In an effort to standardize transcript text across the wiki, transcript text should be on the "Notes" namespace, and should be included inside pages with transcript. Some articles already have these notes, but they are hardcoded into the article, and should instead use notes.

Write Pikmin 2 enemy IDs

Every enemy and obstacle in Pikmin 2 has an internal "teki" ID number. This number should go in the technical information section of each enemy's article.

Remove the ability for infoboxes to add game icons

The game icons in the top right of articles are generally added by Template:Game icons, but some infobox templates add game icons automatically. While this may reduce the number of templates used on some pages, it complicates the game icon system and can make it hard to understand. Ideally, Template:Game icons should be the only template allowed to add game icons, and other templates should have this functionality removed. This would require adding Template:Game icons to hundreds of articles to replace the icons currently added by infoboxes, a task that should ideally be performed by a bot.
