The slooch family is a family of elemental slug-like creatures introduced in Pikmin 3, although the family went unclassified until Pikmin 3 Deluxe. It contains only one member, the Pyroclasmic Slooch, after which the family was named. Members belong to the Sulucina genus.

Pyroclasmic Slooch[edit]
- Main article: Pyroclasmic Slooch.
Scientific name: Sulucina vulcanis
The Pyroclasmic Slooch is a creature that is nearly always cloaked in flames, leaving a trail of fire in its wake. Pyroclasmic Slooches may sometimes travel into water, where they will be extinguished and vulnerable to all Pikmin types. It can, however, be set ablaze again if it manages to contact another source of fire, such as the fire trail of a nearby Pyroclasmic Slooch. It generally ignores Pikmin and leaders, but won't hesitate to make a meal out of them should they be in its way or try to attack it.
Naming[edit]
"Slooch" is similar to slug, of which members of this family are similar to. The genus Sulucina may be derived from lucina, Italian for "small light", as they are noticeably luminescent in dark areas.
