The Astringent Clump (オオダマニガミバシリ?, lit.: "Bitterness Blitzing Big Ball") is a fruit in Pikmin 3, and a treasure in Pikmin 4. It is a grapefruit, and gives the Koppaite explorers two bottles of juice (one in Ultra-Spicy mode). There are two found throughout Pikmin 3, one in the Garden of Hope and the other in the Distant Tundra. This is one of few fruits that does not appear in either Mission Mode or Bingo Battle, though it does appear in Pikmin 3 Deluxe's Side Stories. In Pikmin 4, it can be found in the Secluded Courtyard and the Doppelgänger's Den. It is similar in appearance to the Crunchy Deluge, despite being a different fruit.

Garden of Hope[edit]
To find the Astringent Clump in the Garden of Hope, you must go to the area in the northwest with the Zest Bomb and elevator platforms. There is an electric gate blocking the way to the fruit, which needs to be destroyed first. The Astringent Clump takes 10 Pikmin to carry but a minimum of 32 are needed to complete the puzzle normally. First, throw 22 Pikmin onto the high stack of bricks between the two elevator pairs (this is made easy with Yellow Pikmin, otherwise they can be thrown from the left elevator). Raise 2 leaders up on the left elevator so that one can be thrown to the high stack of bricks. Have the lower 2 leaders go all the way to the right to throw 10 other Pikmin and a leader onto the elevator on the ground. Switch to the leader on the high stack of bricks and throw them onto the elevator with the data file. The leader with the other 10 Pikmin can now throw them to the fruit.
Though you're meant to use the platforms, they can be skipped entirely by locking onto the fruit and charging Winged Pikmin at it before the game stops the lock-on. In Pikmin 3 Deluxe, the Winged Pikmin get stuck more often than not, but it is possible by positioning the leader against the easternmost corner of the block tower and charging from there. Furthermore, when using this method, the destruction of the electric gate can be skipped entirely, as the Winged Pikmin will fly above it while returning the fruit.
Distant Tundra[edit]
An Astringent Clump is found in the Distant Tundra, inside the cave that leads from the main part of the area to the outside segment where Charlie first crash-landed. To get to it, you need to open up a bamboo gate using Winged Pikmin. Red and Winged Pikmin are recommended for this area, as there are multiple fire hazards, including Fiery Blowhogs and fire geysers. There is also a Spotty Bulbear patrolling the room past the bamboo gate, with some Dwarf Bulbears following close behind it. At the end of the room is a crystal wall, next to which, on a ledge, is the slightly buried Astringent Clump. In the area behind the crystal wall, which can either be accessed by destroying the panel with a small group of Rock Pikmin or taking a short path around it with a few Dwarf Bulbears, there are ten bomb rocks. These can be used to take out the enemies in the room and to quickly dig up the fruit. After killing the Spotty Bulbear, carry the fruit back to the S.S. Drake.

Secluded Courtyard[edit]
An Astringent Clump is hanging from a cobweb near the central north point of sublevel 3 of the Secluded Courtyard. There is a water spout beneath it that should be taken care of before attempting to transport the treasure. The nearby Sunsquish and the water spout on the way to the S.S. Beagle should also be dealt with. Afterward, to collect this treasure, you must throw 12 Pikmin at it.
Doppelgänger's Den[edit]
There is an Astringent Clump completely submerged in the pool in the center of sublevel 1 of the Doppelgänger's Den. It is guarded by two Skeeterskates, which should be defeated before attempting to collect it. To collect this treasure, you must throw 12 Pikmin at it.
