In Pikmin, the player can learn information about the gameplay by reading Captain Olimar's monologs. This article lists all the monologs as they appear in the English GameCube, Wii, and Switch versions. Underscores ("_") represent a number that is not constant.

When the text is being written out to the screen, the player can skip ahead and force all text and images to appear right away by pressing the B Button on the GameCube controller / the B Button on the Wii Remote / the B Button on the Switch.

Introduction[edit]

“My name is Captain Olimar. While traveling through space, my ship was struck by a meteor... I must have blacked out, and I awoke on the surface of a weird planet. With so many parts lost, the skeletal hull of my beloved Dolphin is a painful sight. The engine is gone... I'm stranded.”


“To make matters worse, my atmospheric sensors indicate this planet's environment contains high levels of poisonous oxygen. My life-support systems can function for only 30 days. If I can't repair the Dolphin by then... No! Better not to think about it. I must find the missing ship parts!”

Ship status[edit]

Note: The text is programmed to check if Olimar has more than 1 part, in which case it'll write "parts" instead of "part". However, this message only appears on the first day, so the check is unused. In the first day, the only way to check the ship is when it has 0 parts. After collecting the Main Engine, the day automatically ends, and the player can never check the ship again; hence, the game can never write "part", only "parts". Also, in the following days, a similar monolog is uttered instead.

This message was found within the game's ROM but doesn't show up in-game: when the last ship part is collected or day 30 ends, Olimar makes a short statement about his return, and never says anything again.

“My long adventure has finally come to its conclusion. I must part with these Pikmin who have helped me in my need. At last comes the time when I depart to once again travel the depths of space.”

Files[edit]

In the GameCube and Wii versions, Olimar's monologs are inside dataDir\screen\eng_blo. The files' names start with "auf_" for when a ship part is added to the ship, "ufo_" for when a ship part is found, and "tu_tx" for everything else.
