Violet Candypop Buds are purple Candypop Buds found in Pikmin 2. They behave just like any other Candypop bud, but when non-purple Pikmin are thrown in, they will change into Purple Pikmin. Candypops are the only method of obtaining White and Purple Pikmin. If Purple Pikmin are thrown in, they will be reverted to leaf stages, and don't count against the five Pikmin limit per Candypop Bud.

Three Violet Candypop Buds are found on Sublevel 8 of the Subterranean Complex, if the player is in need of more. There are also three in the Hole of Beasts and two in the Emergence Cave, but two of the ones in the Hole of Beasts disappear after a certain amount of Purples is reached; the pair in Emergence Cave will disappear as soon as 20 Purples have been made. The two on the Submerged Castle are always there, as they are needed to defeat the boss – the Waterwraith.
Locations
The following is a list of all the locations of Violet Candypop Buds in each game. In Pikmin 2, if a player collects five Purple Pikmin from each plant encountered as they go along, without repeating caves, they will be able to nearly reach 100. Growing 100 Purple Pikmin is required to collect the Doomsday Apparatus. However, if a player wishes to build their number of Purple Pikmin later, choosing the right cave will greatly speed up the process. The Subterranean Complex is recommended if the player first needs more Pikmin to convert, as Queen Candypop Buds are present. However, if a player doesn't need or want to grow more Pikmin, such as in a 101 Pikmin run, the Bulblax Kingdom would be the fastest option. To note that many Violet Candypop Buds disappear after the player's total amount of Purple Pikmin has reached 20, as explained here. Using Bulbmin is also convenient for growing Purple Pikmin, such as in the Submerged Castle, where Purple Pikmin are needed to defeat the boss – the Waterwraith.

This plant reappears in Pikmin 3 but is the rarest Candypop Bud in the game, with a single one being found in Mission Mode's Thirsty Desert.

Violet Candypop Buds (ムラサキポンガシグサ?, lit.: "Purple Puffed Grain Weed") are purple Candypop Buds in Pikmin 2. They behave the same as all other Candypop Buds, except when non-Purple Pikmin are thrown in, they will change into Purple Pikmin. If Purple Pikmin are thrown in, they will be reverted to the leaf maturity. These plants are the only way to obtain Purple Pikmin.

Locations[edit]

Notes

Olimar's notes

Research from our most recent expedition has confirmed the presence of candypop buds in subterranean regions. Considering the micro-ecologies this plant has been found in, one could surmise that it could be found in any cavern, regardless of geographic region. Tossing Pikmin into this flower results in the release of purple Pikmin seeds, regardless of the color of the Pikmin tossed in. This variety of candypop contains robustly odoriferous oils. If candypop flowers could be cultivated, there is no doubt that the plants would offer multifaceted benefits to the cosmetic, medical, and tourist industries.

Louie's notes

This convenient purple flower secretes a dark, flavorful oil that eliminates the need for salad dressing!

Pikmin 2 Nintendo Player's Guide[edit]

The most useful Candypop Bud turns Pikmin weaklings into powerful purples. Don't pass up an opportunity to add to your purple Pikmin population.
