Party Walks are a feature of pb, introduced on 25. Party Walks have no set goal to work towards, and are simply a way to walk together with friends. All players have the ability to host one Party Walk at a time, and can join up to three simultaneously, but they cannot be left once joined. Party Walks can be scheduled to last for up to 28 days, and give no rewards upon completion.
Challenges are a social feature of pb, accessed through the challenge list. All types of challenges are centered around the goal of completing an activity with a group of people. There are currently 2 types of challenges – weekly challenges, and party walks.

Weekly Challenges
Process
Weekly challenges are the first type of challenge, introduced in version 44.0. Each week, a certain challenge (such as walking some number of steps) is set for all players, and players can work together with up to 4 friends or other players to complete the challenge as a group. Completing a challenge before the deadline gives rewards to each player in the group.
Party Walk progress can be viewed in the Party Walk section of the challenge list. Here, players have the option to host their own Party Walk by pressing the “Host a Party Walk” button. Any other players Party Walks that have been joined will appear here.

Process
Clicking on any active Party Walk in the menu opens up a menu showing the name of the host, the name of walk, how much time until the walk ends, and a button to view the invitation link. Below this, there is a section showing the total steps of everyone participating in the Party Walk.  Below the total steps, the host’s total steps for the day are listed, and below that, the total amount of participants and a random assortment of 15 walk participants and their total steps are listed. Each time the walk menu is opened, the participants shown are different.

To begin a weekly challenge a player needs to open the challenge list menu and select a challenge. A menu displaying groups participating in the selected challenge will be presented. These groups are comprised of the player's friends, as well as friends of friends, an option featuring only the player if they choose to begin a new challenge themselves, and a final option to start a group with 4 other random players. After selecting a group, the player will be asked to confirm their choice. After starting the challenge, the player may invite friends to any open slots.
If a walk that the player has joined but has not yet started is clicked on, the menu shows the same information as when a walk has started. Where the total steps are usually listed, the total amount of registered players and the words “Please wait for the Party Walk to start.” are shown.

While a challenge is active, it’s display in the challenge list changes to display the challenge's progress and it’s participants. Tapping on the challenge will bring the player to a screen showing all participants jogging together, each alongside the first five Pikmin in their active squad, according to their most recently-chosen sorting order. This screen features various elements, such as each player's step or flower total, the total step or flower goal and how many days remain to achieve it, the date the group began the challenge, a breakdown of each player's contribution towards the goal, their profile images and names, as well as a random quote.
Hosting a Party Walk
To host a Party Walk, player’s need to click the “Host a Party Walk” button. A menu will open, requiring a start and end date to be chosen. Under the “Start date time” section, a button labeled “Start now” can be clicked, which will cause the Party Walk to begin the moment the process to host a walk is finished. The end date for the walk can be anywhere from 2 hours to 28 days from the start date.

Upon completing a challenge, whether by reaching either the goal or the expiration date, the player is brought to a screen displaying the group and their progress. A star-rating from 1-3 is awarded based on how much of the goal was achieved. The screen will then focus on each player's Mii as their contributions are displayed and celebrated by the other Miis and Pikmin in the group.
After a start and end date is chosen, the menu progresses to the next step for hosting the walk. Players can either choose their own name (which must be under 30 characters) for the walk, or have a name randomly picked from the following set of names:
(List of names)

If the player leaves a challenge before it is completed, their progress in the challenge will be removed, and they will be able to join another challenge. If they rejoin the same challenge, their previous progress does not get added.
After a name is chosen, the menu progresses to the final step for hosting the walk. A summary of the start and end date and the walks name is shown, and the Party Walk will be created once the player presses the “OK” button. The screen will progress to a menu showing a QR code that players can scan to the host’s Party Walk, with a share button to save an image of the QR code and all details of the walk.

The challenge ends at midnight on Monday in the timezone of the user who created the group.
Once the Party Walk begins, a menu shows up with the walk details and the words “Party Walk Begins!” for the host and all participants. A speech bubble will appear in front of the players Mii with the text “Party Walk you are hosting has begun!” in it. Any time this speech bubble is viewed afterwards, the text will read “You are hosting a Party Walk!”. Clicking on the speech bubble opens a menu

History
Since their introduction on 28, there has been at least 1 weekly challenge each week, with all challenges running from Monday to Sunday (except the first). Initially, there was just one challenge each week, a step challenge. On 16, a second step challenge option was added, where players could choose whether to do the easy option (most often 20,000 steps) or the hard option (most often 100,000 steps). Completing an easy step challenges usually gives 20 white nectar, 20 yellow nectar, 20 red nectar, and 10 blue nectar. Completing a hard step challenge usually gives 40 white nectar, 40 yellow nectar, 40 red nectar, 20 blue nectar, and 1 special nectar.

On 11, flower planting challenges were introduced. These usually give white petals, yellow petals, red petals, a single-use slot, and some other kind of petal when completed, though this has varied over time. Initially there were 2 levels of flower planting challenges, similar to step challenges, but from 26 there was only 1 type of flower planting challenge each week. Since 3 there have now been 2 types of flower planting challenges again.

On 23, the Challenge Recharge Ticket was renamed to the Weekly Challenge Ticket.

On 1, the Weekly Challenge Ticket's price in the shop increased from 100 to 200 coins.

Events occasionally add temporary extra rewards for completing weekly challenges, such as a Gold Seedling or a Mii part. These rewards are usually obtained no matter the score the player gets on the weekly challenge.

Party Walks
Star challenges
These are a special kind of challenge that run on a specific date. Unlike the first two types of challenge, these do not consume Weekly Challenge Tickets and do not offer any reward for their completion. Additionally, these challenges have a host appointed by Niantic.

The first Star challenge was hosted by ジョーさん (Mr. Joe) and ran from 22 to 29. To join users had to follow a link provided by the challenge's host or scan a QR code. Once the challenge started, players could create groups of 4 people (either randomly or by inviting people from the friends list) to join ジョーさん in walking 150,000 steps.
