Main article: Bogswallow.

Bogswallow are mud-dwelling enemies first discovered in the Primordial Thicket in Pikmin 4. They are a very dirty yellow and have accents of brown. Atop their head are six green eyes, and their mouth is red in coloration. Bogswallow spit mud as a defensive mechanism but also to encapsulate prey so they can eat it.

Naming

The family's name, polyocular slug, contains the prefix poly, meaning 'multiple', and the word ocular, meaning 'eyepiece' or 'connected with eyes or vision'. These words together mean 'multiple eyes', which is in relation to the six eyes that the Bogswallow has. The second word, slug, describes the type of creatures that reside in the family, as they are slugs.

The family's genus, Gastropoidulus, can be split up into gastropoid and the suffix ulus. The first part, gastropoid, is derived from the word gastropod, which are most commonly slugs and snails; In this case, slugs, due to their lack of a shell. The second part, ulus, is a suffix that is used to create genus names and indicates smaller size. Therefore, putting the two words together, we get small slug. It is similar to gastropoidae, the genus for members of the Meerslug family.
