Welcome to my User page. I was an active user on Pikipedia back in 2016 before getting fully involved in other communities. I intend to become somewhat active again with Pikmin 4 being released in just a few months. This page lists things that I took note of during gameplay but did not add anywhere on the wiki back then, although since this page has not been edited for many years now, other contributors might have already added information to the relevant pages. If that is the case, I will delete duplicate information, or you can let me know directly.
To do: Move "Music in Pikmin: oddities to Music in Pikmin |
Favourite Pikmin
My favourite Pikmin types are Blue, Winged, and White Pikmin.
Youtube Channel

I used to upload glitches or other gameplay oddities to my Youtube channel before playing Salmon Run. I'm likely to upload Pikmin 4 videos once the game has been released and for the purpose of contributing to the wiki.
Leader throw preferences
In a voyage log in Pikmin 3, Charlie says that he'd rather throw Alph instead of Brittany.
Gameplay-wise, I've noticed a few interesting things while messing around with the leaders. Requirement: no Pikmin should be following the player, and all leaders should be following.
- While playing as Charlie, if the player is holding Brittany, Alph can be switched to. If Charlie is holding Alph, though, Brittany can't be switched to.
- While playing as Alph, if the player is holding Charlie, Brittany can be switched to. If Alph is holding Brittany, then Charlie can't be switched to.
- While playing as Brittany, if the player is holding Charlie, Alph can be switched to. If Brittany is holding Alph, then Charlie can't be switched to.
Interestingly enough, this somewhat matches the leaders' preferences towards one another which players can infer from in-game conversations:
- Alph admires Charlie > He'd rather not throw him (no confirmation on this).
- Brittany prefers to interact with Alph and not so much with Charlie / she may be disgusted by Charlie > She'd rather throw Alph. Somewhat confirmed in the Japanese and French notes on the Mock Bottom. In the French version of the description specifically, Brittany comments "yuk" when thinking about Charlie. I don't know about the Japanese version.
- Charlie presumably has a crush on Brittany > He'd rather throw Alph (and he confirms it in-game, as stated above).
Ironically, Charlie would rather be a throwee than a thrower, as confirmed here, but he can never be switched to (presumably because no one wants to throw him, according to the above theory).
Additional information from Soprano:
- When playing as Alph/Brittany, you can switch from holding Olimar to Louie, but not from Louie to Olimar.
- When playing as Olimar, you can switch from holding Louie to Alph/Brittany, but not from Alph/Brittany to Louie.
- When playing as Louie, you can switch from holding Olimar to Alph/Brittany, but not from Alph/Brittany to Olimar
Treasure and Enemy Description in the Switch Port
Some enemies and treasures may have different notes in the Switch port. They will be listed here for now.
Cupid's Grenade
Olimar's notes: "What a perplexing fruit... This appears to be from a tree that produces two types of berries that look identical. But some inspire romance, and others do the opposite. It's not easy to tell which is which. I'd better be careful with them. I should also warn Louie, or else he may try to bake this berry in a pie."
Insect Condo
Olimar's notes: "Internal scans reveal that this juicy nugget can support a symbiotic community! Imagine the benefits... The Ship can't stand to even look at bugs, let alone store them. But I had to put my foot down on this one."
Love Nugget
Olimar's notes: "This tasty red snack isn't quite a fruit, but doesn't seem like a vegetable either. I've analyzed it extensively, and it appears to be releasing stimulating pheromones. I can imagine my wife and I cooking this into some memorable meals."
Anti-hiccup Fungus
Olimar's notes: "What a shocking taste! ...I suppose young people, like Louie, might find it tasty, but the flavor is too intense for me!"
Science Project
Olimar's notes: "I think I'll take this plant back to my boy as a souvenir of my grand expedition! It'll make the perfect topic for his science-fair project!"
Conifer Spire
Olimar's notes: "I've paid off all of the company's debts, but I find myself returning to this planet yet again! This time, I must find and rescue Louie! I've been scouring the wilderness we landed on. As I scour this region, I can't help but feel lonely for my faithful sidekick. Even if he does eat all of the ship's on-board snacks. Because of my loneliness, I've dubbed this rough region the Wistful Wild."
Boom Cone
Olimar's notes: "Today we explored the remains of wooden structures found deep underground. I can't imagine who on this uncivilized planet might have created such a place. We'll have to wait until later to make sense of this maze, but this place intrigues me. As for this object we found there, we hope to fathom its true purpose in time!"
Yellow Wollywog
The creature is called Yellow Wollyhop in the port (as it was in the EU versions of the NPC! releases) and its scientific name is now "Amphicaris frondiferorum". This change is also reflected in Olimar's notes for the Wolpole.
Doodlebug
The Doodlebug is no longer in the Flint bug family but now in the Flint beetle family. The Glint Beetle remains in the Glint beetle family.
Music in Pikmin: oddities
- Immature Pellet Posies trigger the enemy variation when attacked (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
- Semi mature Pellet Posies will trigger the enemy variation:
- if the player was near the Pellet Posies when they evolved (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
- if the player attacks the Pellet Posies while the normal music variation is playing
- Mature Pellet Posies trigger the enemy variation:
- if the player is near them as they grow (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
- if the player attacks them while the normal music variation is playing
- Bomb rocks trigger the enemy variation for a few seconds when exploding
- When several Pikmin drown at once, the enemy variation will play (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away). (Find how many Pikmin need to drown)
- Fire geysers will trigger the enemy variation when approached
- Candypop Buds will trigger the enemy variation:
- On contact (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
- If a Pikmin is thrown into it (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
- Inactive water geysers will trigger the enemy variation only when attacked
- Active water geysers will trigger the enemy variation when approached
- Nectar, when spawning from a patch of weed or a pile of rubble, will trigger the enemy variation
- Honeywisps, when attacked, trigger the enemy variation (only lasts a few seconds).
- When boulders are broken by or crush Captain Olimar, the enemy variation will play (only lasts a few seconds)
Monita's monologues ( European version )

When playing alone
First time the attraction is played
As Olimar or a Pikmin (doesn't change anything)
"In this attraction, you live out the adventures of Captain Olimar.
You will re-enact a daring escape after being shipwrecked on a distant planet.
Fortunately, you have enlisted the aid of its curious inhabitants, the Pikmin.
You must reach the evacuation area to be picked up by your spaceship.
The tutorial plays righ after (section below). After the tutorial finishes for the first time, Monita explain again the goal of the attraction.
Now, let me introduce the evil overlord - the toughest enemy you will ever face, I assure you...
It is none other than my fearsome alter ego, Dark Monita!
Oh, yes. This will be quite amusing! Ha ha ha ha.
Dark Monita takes the place of Monita.
I am the evil overlord, and you shall cower before my stunning resolution!
I will do everything in my power to hinder your progress.
No hard feelings, now."

When you touch the Call icon, you don't just gather your Pikmin.
You will also call over your support Mii.
Learn to use this command to maximize your battle potency.
This concludes the explanation of the controls."

They also block one enemy attack."
"In this challenge, your greatest foe is the time limit.
If the clock ticks down to zero, you fail to escape.
(Stopwatch icon)←Stopwatches will give you more time. don't forget to pick them up.
Fortunately, you can't run out of health while the time limit rule is in effect.
Consider it a special favour from me to you."
"This is a Jump Switch.

After the boss of the last normal level is defeated, Dark Monita speaks.
"You've completed all the challenges. Good work!
I'm impressed.
As a reward, I'll present you with an especially devious challenge.
I will be ramping up the difficulty quite a bit. Don't worry. I wouldn't dream of playing nice.
Prepare yourself!
Well then, we shall meet again."
When the player finishes all the levels, Dark Monita adresses a message to them.
"You have completed all of the advanced challenges!
Congratulations.
I'm sorry I had to cause you so much trouble.
Oh, and...
I'm glad you stuck it out till the end.
Next, why don't you aim to master the challenges?
See you again soon."
As Olimar only
"Olimar's Pikmin have grown into bud Pikmin.
Olimar can now command more Pikmin! Their attack power has also increased significantly."
"Olimar's Pikmin have grown into flower Pikmin.
Olimar's Pikmin have grown in number and become stronger!"
"This is a bomb. It will explode if you pick it up and throw it.
Approach the bomb and touch it to pick it up."
Monita explains some new controls at the start of the first advanced stage.
"In the advanced challenges, you will face enemies with various elemental properties.
The three elements you will encounter are water, fire and electricity.
Attacks from Pikmin that share the same element are very effective.
On the other hand...
Attacks from Pikmin with a different element are fairly weak.
Please be cautious."
"Now I'll explain how to handle creatures with elemental properties.
Olimar now has the Colour Swap ability, complete with a new icon.
This handy ability changes the colour of Pikmin each time you use it.
Try to match the colour of your Pikmin to your enemy's element."
As a Pikmin only
"The Pikmin has grown into a bud Pikmin.
Its attack power has increased, and it has learnt a new combo attack."
"The Pikmin has grown into a flower Pikmin.
It has also grown a bit stronger!"
"This is a bomb. It will explode if you pick it up and throw it.
If you want to try picking it up, get close and press ."
