The mawdad family is a family of centipede-like creatures introduced in Pikmin 3, although the family went unclassified until Pikmin 3 Deluxe. It contains only one member, the Armored Mawdad, which the family is named after. Members belong to the tuberclipeum genus.

Armored Mawdad
- Main article: Armored Mawdad.
Armored Mawdad is the first boss in Pikmin 3, and the boss of the Garden of Hope. It is a massive beast with a multitude of small gecko-like legs, a large head, yellow eyes, a bluish-green underbelly, a gaping mouth, and large curved mandibles. The boss crawls about and is able to climb up the sides of walls as a means of fleeing. Its shell is crystal and can be broken by Rock Pikmin to expose the soft skin underneath.
Naming
The family name mawdad contains maw, a word used to describe the thick jaws of a predator, which members posses. The dad part may be an indication of authority.
The family genus, tuberclipeum, includes the word "tuber". This is because potatoes are a type of tuber, in reference to the Japanese name of the Armored Mawdad, which contains the word "potato".
