Terminology

Altered names

Across the series, some subjects have been renamed over time, such as the Bulborb and Wollyhop. In general, the most recent name should always be used when discussing these subjects. When describing a specific game, the name appropriate for that game should be used instead. For example: Red Bulborbs are very common in Pikmin 2.

Point of view

Second-person pronouns such as "you" and "your" should not be used. Instead, third-person terms such as "the player" should be used. When using pronouns, refer to the player with "they" and "them".

Captain

The character that Pikmin follow is called a leader, and not a captain. Only Captain Olimar, Captain Charlie, and Captain Erma Shepherd should be referred to as captains.

Pikmin 1

The first game in the Pikmin series should be referred to as simply Pikmin wherever possible, and not Pikmin 1. This may be ignored in some cases where using the term Pikmin may be ambiguously referring to the titular species or series as a whole. Pikmin 1 on Nintendo Switch does not apply, as it is officially titled "Pikmin 1".

Onions, Pellets, and Candypop Buds

Subjects related to Pikmin, such as Onions, Candypop Buds, and Pellets may vary in color in relation to a particular type. When describing them, use the respective Pikmin type's name. For example: Blue Pellet and Winged Onion are correct, but Azure Pellet and Pink Onion are not.

An exception to this is Pikmin 2, in which each color of Candypop Bud is listed in the Piklopedia as a different species. When referring to Pikmin 2, use the names Crimson Candypop Bud, Golden Candypop Bud, Lapis Lazuli Candypop Bud, Violet Candypop Bud, and Ivory Candypop Bud.

Capitalization

In order to emphasize important subjects, some names may be written in Title Case.
